Summary THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a AIRCRAFT ORDNANCE SYSTEMS MECHANIC (Title 32), Position Description Number D0115000 and is part of the OK 138th Fighter Wing, Oklahoma Air National Guard. Responsibilities This position is located in the Egress Systems Shop of the Aerospace Systems Section, Field Maintenance Branch, Aircraft Maintenance Division. The primary purpose of this position is to perform on and off equipment maintenance on aircraft egress systems, such as aircraft ejection seats, extraction and escape systems, egress components of jettison canopies, explosive components of escape hatches and doors, and egress trainers. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Troubleshoots, installs, removes, repairs. modifies, adjusts, inspects, and tests each component as regulators, flow indicators, actuator motors, thruster and positioning mechanisms, seat actuators, catapult guide rails, ejection seats, rocket packs, and canopies, etc. Inspects for safety, serviceability, and maintainability of systems prior to installation, removal, repair, or adjustments of components and insures proper installation and positioning of safety pins. initiators, simulators, and clearing mechanisms. Visually inspects ballistic lines, tubes, hoses, and linkage for damage, deterioration, restrictions, and security of connections and mountings, and performs corrective maintenance as required. Stores egress explosives IAW AFOSH standards. Inspects pressurization system air pressure gauges for sufficient pressure and bottles and regulators for general condition and serviceability. Checks canopy and capsule structure and associated seals, latches, and locks for damaae and security. Installs and maintains Jet Assistance Take Off (JATO) systems when applicable. Isolates the malfunction and takes necessary corrective action. Positions, repairs, and adjusts required aerospace ground equipment, such as rail extensions, hoists, slings. dollies, and trailers used in performing maintenance tasks. Performs installation, modification, and repair of aircraft egress systems. Solves unusual installation and maintenance problems by studying layout drawings, schematic and wiring diagrams, applicable technical publications, and analyzing construction and operating characteristics of egress systems. Selects proper maintenance and repair procedures and corrects the malfunction and/or defective equipment. Diagnoses recurring malfunctions and recommends corrective action by initiation of Quality Deficiency Reports, proposed modifications, or other appropriate action. Performs Time Compliance Technical Orders (TCTO'S) related to egress systems. Prepares for and participates in various types of readiness evaluations such as ORI, IC and UE inspections, mobility, and command support exercises. Mav be required to perform such additional duties as structural firefighting, aircraft fire/ crash/rescue duty, security Ruerd, snow removal, munitions loading and handling. Heavy equipment operator, maintain of facilities and equipment or serve as a member of a team to cope with natural disasters or civil urgencies. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Military Grades: E1 through E5 GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training which demonstrates the applicant's ability to repair malfunctions of ordnance equipment and components. Ability to use sketches, electrical diagrams, technical specifications and engineering drawings. Experience which demonstrates skill in the use of test equipment to make electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic checks. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience or training in planning and layout of repair sequence and ability to complete modification, repair and installation of ordnance systems. Experience in diagnosing and troubleshooting malfunctions and determining remedy where complex relationships exist. Experience in hand tools and a limited number of measuring equipment. Experience in the use of a variety of test equipment. Experience in interpreting technical directions, blueprints, sketches, wiring diagrams and manufacturer's specifications. Incumbent is expected to perform duties with considerable independence, to select the tools and appropriate repair procedures to perform corrective maintenance, and to accomplish assignments with minimal supervision referring only the most difficult problems to the supervisor or higher graded technician for advice or assistance. Work is performed inside and outside, in varied temperature and humidity extremes, and on slippery ramps, aircraft surfaces and work stands. Incumbent is also highly exposed to possible injury which may occur from accidental discharge of various ballistic units installed in aircraft ejection seats and canopy egress systems. Education There is no substitution of education for specialized experience for this position.
