Aircraft Systems Engineer 2 Project Lead
Overview We are seeking a full-time Aircraft Systems Engineer 2 - Project Lead in our New Century, KS location. In this role, you will be responsible for leading avionics systems STC projects, coordinate with project team to define and generate required documentation and other type design data needed to support Garmin STC projects. You will also assist in the development of documentation for avionics system installations, coordinate with teams as needed to drive schedule and complete assigned tasks, and report on project status and risks to department leadership. Essential Functions Lead avionics and flight control system installation STC projects of simple to medium size and complexity with the ability to lead multiple simple STC projects simultaneously Generate STC project proposals for simple to medium-complexity projects and assist in the generation of STC project proposals for larger and more complex projects Establish project teams comprised of multiple disciplines throughout the department and company that represent all applicable stake holders Create and drive project schedules, working both at a detailed level that identifies project need dates to the project team and stakeholders and at a higher-level in reporting status to department leadership Establish a regular project meeting with each project team to facilitate communication, identify key milestones and ensure the team activities required to meet those milestones are understood Create and maintain all project lead deliverables such as the Project Tracking log, Certification Data List, Conformity Inspection Log, FAA Correspondence Log, TIA readiness reviews, burn down lists, JIRA item tracking, and project schedules Generate the draft certification plan and coordinate with project team and assigned UMs to complete the plan in a timely manner Identify project risks in a timely manner and work with the team to identify mitigation strategies. Execute the mitigation strategies as required Coordinate with project team as needed to monitor, track and complete assigned tasks and deliverables relative to schedule milestones Work with project team members and their team leads to resolve resource conflicts or technical issues that jeopardize meeting schedule commitments. Communicate project issues to management in a timely manner Work with the project team to develop and execute schedule recovery activities to try to minimize schedule impact Coordinate with the project team and technicians in troubleshooting issues on project aircraft Coordinate, monitor and track project correspondence, conformity activity/records and other required STC project need Basic Qualifications Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace, or Computer Engineering from a four-year college or university AND a minimum of 1 year relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule) with the demonstrated ability to apply learned knowledge Proficient use of software specific to job functions (Microsoft Office, Microsoft project, etc.) Must be detail-oriented, very organized, and work proactively and effectively with some supervision coaching Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a flexible, fast paced and challenging environment Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication Communicate efficiently and effectively in both written and verbal form Good leadership skills, and ability to negotiate solutions with stakeholders and address conflict effectively Work collaboratively and professionally in a team environment with other Garmin associates to achieve goals Offer suggestions to improve processes Work effectively with technicians, flight crew and engineers to support project needs Provide or help facilitate the solutions to a variety of problems using sound problem solving techniques Apply a sense of urgency, commitment and focus on the right priorities in working tasks and develop solutions in a timely fashion Demonstrated working knowledge in one or more of the following technical areas: Structures Mechanical Systems System Safety HIRF/Lightning Electrical Systems Desired Qualifications Superior academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5) Strong project management experience on FAA certification projects Working experience with the Garmin ODA processes and procedures or experience working under similar delegated organizations at other companies Experience working directly with ODA Unit Members or individual FAA designees Demonstrate basic understanding of Federal Aviation Regulations, STC certification processes, and associated regulatory topic Garmin International is an equal opportunity employer.
