Summary You will serve as an Assistant Airfield Manager in the Air Operations Department of Naval Base Ventura County. Responsibilities You will oversee daily airfield inspections to identify discrepancies and system outages (e.g., navigational aids, landing aid systems, airfield lighting, pavement), and submit applicable forms for corrective action. You will manage air operations in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) rules and regulations to ensure a safe, efficient, and effective airfield environment. You will advise customers and staff on technical airport issues to comply with airfield operations policies and procedures and provide briefings on airfield construction and events to tenant units on a recurring basis. You will review traffic management plans, programs, policies, procedures, systems, and techniques to accomplish mission requirements for airfield operations. You will assist in updating and recommending changes to the airfield driving program and assist in fleet liaison duties. You will fly to a naval outlying field to conduct airfield inspections/checks on a frequency determined by management. You will provide subject matter expert advice and recommendations to Air Operations staff and leadership. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Evaluating the condition of airfield facilities (i.e. pavements, runways, taxiways, lighting, signage, etc.) to ensure safety criteria is met and determine operational status; 2) Assisting air traffic controllers to plan flight routes, file flight plans, and obtain clearances to operate in controlled airspace; 3) Coordinating response to airfield emergencies and mishaps; and 4) Liaising with aviation tenants to assist with airfield issues (i.e. airfield safety waivers, site approvals, etc.). PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is primarily sedentary; however, some walking, standing, and stooping are required when checking airfield conditions. Some lifting and carrying of up to 50 pounds is required in handling flight publications and office equipment, such as information technology equipment. WORKING ENVIRONMENT: You are frequently required to go outside in all types of weather to inspect the airfield. Work involved moderate risks that require special safety precautions for noise, munitions, and moving aircraft.
