TheAquaticInvasive Species(AIS)Bureauismanagedandcoordinated bystaffwithintheDepartmentheadquarters.Implementation ofprograms areaccomplishedbythe respective AIScoordinators.TheAIS AreaSupervisor position serves as theregional watercraft inspectionanddecontaminationsupervisorandassiststheAISPreventionSpecialistand theAISPrevention Coordinator incarrying outspecified AIS prevention andcontainment activities. Managementdecisionswilloftenhavelocal,statewide,andnationaleffectsonresourcestatusandconservation. Thisannouncementlookstofillonefull-time,year-round position.Thispositioncoversthesoutheast portionof Montana inFWP Regions 5and 7.The position will bebased insoutheast Montana ineither Miles CityorBillings. PhysicalandEnvironmentalDemands: * * Thispositionencompassesalargerangeofknowledgeandabilities.Workingconditionsinvolveoutdoorwork, oftenininclement weather. Work requires periodic exposure tohazardous materials, dustandfumesand equipmentexhaustandhighnoiselevelswhileperforming decontaminationsandrepairandmaintenancework. Work requires constant interaction withthepublic asarepresentativeofthestateofMontana, and Montana Fish, Wildlife& Parks. Daily and overnight travel isoftenrequired invariable road conditions. Itdemands a dedicated employee with availability towork weekends, evenings, someholidays; aswellasworking long hoursoutdoors.Applicants will beexpected tosit,bend,stoop,crawl, climb,andmove upto75pounds.This position will oftenwork with littlesupervision andrequire remote supervision ofemployees. On-call availability during thefield season will be required. Must have valid driver's license. JobDuties: Regionalwatercraftinspectionstationmanagementduties:includinginterpretationandapplicationofMontana statute and rules;quick decision making on questions posed; decontaminationand tracking ofcertain watercraft; coordinationwith other entities; presentations; trainings. Watercraft inspectionstationsupervision: Including hiring,scheduling, andtraining;addressingpersonnel issues;remotesupervisionofemployees;handlinglogisticsrelatedtoequipment,outreach,etc.;on-callduties; collaboration and coordination with inspection station partners. Administrative:Includingrecruitmentandnewhirepaperwork;timeroll;computing;reportingtosupervisor; creating/augmenting training materials and watercraft inspection station documents Maintenance andrepair ofequipment: Including maintaining property lists,andequipment andsupplies; performroutinemaintenanceasnecessary;remotetroubleshooting;assessesneedforvehicles;coordinated repairs and warranty work. RegionalAISbureauliaison:AISAreaSupervisorsserveastheprimary regionalcontactonAISissuesintheir region(s). Thisincludes working closely withDepartment staff,tribes,conservationdistricts,National Parks, counties, cities,NGO's, user groups and the publictocoordinate onAIS prevention, survey, and outreachactivities. AIS Outreach:Serves astheregional AISoutreachcontact. Presents AISinformation topartners inthe supervisor's respectiveregion.CoordinatesoutreachactivitieswiththeComEdDivision.Deliversoutreach informationatlocaleventsandtointerested usergroupsincludingpartnerswithstate,federal,tribal,county, NGO, and other user groups. Knowledge,SkillsandAbilities: This position supervises and works witha variety ofindividuals, partners, andagencies, ofvarying backgrounds andisexpected to buildstrongrelationships.Applicant should haveadesiretocontinually grow andlearn.Theincumbentisexpectedtomakequick,criticaldecisionsbasedonlimitedinformation,ontopics that could have great impact to numerous individuals and Montana's resources. Knowledgeofandexperiencewithcomputerapplicationssuchaswordprocessing,spreadsheets,anddata storage.Thispositionrequiresgoodorganizationalandtimemanagement skills,andexcellent writtenand verbal communication.Applicants should beabletolearn and apply new information quickly. Ideally,thisperson would beknowledgeable inaquatic invasive species, fisheries biology, aquatic ecology, macrophyteandinvertebratesamplingandidentification,andcomputerdatabasemanagement.Experiencewith management ofmultipleemployees inremotelocationsispreferred.Goodcommunication skillsarenecessary indealing withemployees, other agencies, sporting groups, andthepublic. Theincumbent must beableto communicate resultsofresearch and monitoring toprofessional peers,the public, and local,state,andfederal policymakers.Must beabletoanalyze andsummarize datafromareaofresponsibilityasneededandrequested bysuperiors.Must establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellowemployees, other agencies, variousinterest groups, andthepublic. Must workindependently withminimal supervision while remotely supervising others including technicians, temporary andseasonal fieldworker positions, various contractors, work-study students, and volunteers. EducationandExperience: Knowledge inaquaticinvasivespecies,aquaticecology orsimilarfieldisideal.Bachelor's degreeinscience related field oratleast 2 years ofjob-related experience isdesired./Other combinations ofeducation and experience will beconsidered.
