An exciting opportunity for a highly motivated algorithm scientist to provide cutting-edge image processing solutions for the medical device industry. The algorithm scientist will be responsible for all aspects of algorithm development for an ophthalmic medical device imaging system. The person will be responsible for researching and developing a new class of algorithms for image processing, feature extraction, and segmentation, as well as data analysis.

Core Job Duties:

• Drive innovation with the development of new and innovative Computer Vision and Artificial Intelligence algorithms.

• Working with a cross-functional team of R&D engineers and scientists to define the algorithm and software architecture requirements.

• Design, implement, test, and validate algorithms on relevant tools

• Identify and optimize the performance of critical signal processing algorithms using GPU or other high-performance computing techniques

• Unit test and debug algorithm software on system hardware along with the associated documentations

• Working collaboratively with the development team to implement novel algorithms into the current and future products.

• Support algorithm development through the entire product lifecycle of the relevant products.

• Collaboration with external researchers in universities and research institutes for joint algorithm and clinical application development projects.

Education & Experience:

• M.S. or Ph.D. in Physics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related fields.

• 5+ years of related algorithm development experience using C++ or Matlab

• Algorithm experience with image processing, computer vision, and AI or machine learning is required.

• Algorithm development experience with GPU programming (CUDA, OpenCL, OpenGL) is a plus.

• Experience with medical imaging such as ultrasound, MRI or CT is desirable. Experience with OCT imaging is a strong plus.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Strong working knowledge of software engineering principles and developing algorithm using C/C++ programming language.

• Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to find creative solutions to difficult problems.

• Knowledge of digital signal processing and image processing algorithms and techniques.

• Knowledge of retinal imaging techniques such as fundus photography, SLO, FAF, or OCT is a plus.

• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and communicate effectively (written and verbal) across multiple locations and teams

• Individual must be motivated to work independently as well as in a team-oriented and goal-oriented manner.

Physical Requirements:

• Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently and/or a negligible amount of force constantly.

Working Conditions:

• Work in an office and/or laboratory setting.  May require occasional travel up to 5%.

Base Pay:

Expected Base Pay Range: $130,000 to $150,000 Annualized

The base pay range included is a projected hiring range for a position, level and potential work location(s) listed.  Topcon provides the compensation range that it in good faith believes it might pay and/or offer for this position. This compensation range is based on a full-time schedule.   

Bonus eligible:

 In addition to base pay, compensation for this position includes eligibility for an annual bonus.
