Summary THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a ALLIED TRADES WORKER (Title 32), Position Description Number D1220000 and is part of the OK CSMS, Oklahoma Army National Guard. Responsibilities This position is located in a Joint Forces Headquarters-State, Logistics Directorate (J-4), Surface Maintenance Facility. The primary purpose of this position is to assist higher graded workers in performing work in the skilled trades' occupations in support of maintenance functions. Engages in joint operations with higher graded workers. Rotates through trades areas to gain experience. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES: Performs complicated skilled trades tasks in any Allied Trades Shops. Operates various welding equipment to include wire welders, torches, stick welders, plasma cutters to perform minor welding tasks following accepted shop practices. Uses jigs and fixtures in clamping pieces together to assemble and set up the part to be welded. Repairs mobile equipment metal body components such as fenders, panels, hooks, truck beds. Straightens, knocks out dents and creases, sands and finishes damaged parts. Replaces broken or damaged windshields and windows. Paints a wide variety of vehicles using standard methods such as brushing, rolling, and spraying by the use of coating materials that are prepared according to directions, and by the application of coating techniques that assure surface is fully coated, protected, and free from drips and runs. Prepares surfaces by sanding and wire brushing. Thins, stirs and mixes coating material. Applies coating materials with brushes, rollers, or spray guns. Modifies, repairs and makes canvas parts such as truck tarpaulin, machinery and equipment covers. Repairs or makes new covers for upholstery on trucks, and other equipment. Constructs and repairs boxes, pallets, wood bracing to be used in shipping and storage. Follows instructions as to the type of item, size, shape, and materials to be used. Exact measurement will frequently not be available. Removes and replaces wood type trailer decking. Operates various machine tools performing work involved in various simple fabrications as instructed by a higher-grade machinist who will lay out the work required and give specific instructions in the performance of the work required. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Military Grades: E3 through E9 GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training which demonstrates knowledge of equipment to be able to do routine jobs, simple preventative maintenance tasks, and is able to use common tools and equipment in the line of work. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience or training using common hand and power tools and a small variety of test and measurement devices to make mechanical repairs. Experience removing, adjusting, replacing, cleaning, and installing a variety of parts, components, and accessories. Experience which demonstrates a basic understanding of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic theory applying to vehicles; and skill to replace, fit, install, and make adjustments. Experience demonstrating an understanding of the makeup and operation of the various individual systems maintained and their interrelationships. Experience reading and interpreting parts lists, manufactures' repair manuals, diagrams, and electrical schematics. Skill in setting up various electric resistant welding machines or to use one or more manual welding processes. Assures proper spacing pressure and heat cycle. Controls the torch or arc. Skill in using and setting up machinist equipment to perform less complicated tasks. Knowledge of metals used and how various parts are bolted, soldered, riveted, or welded. Ability to use the tools of the trade and return metal to the original contour with minimum stretch or added dents. Knowledge of how to prepare surfaces for painting and apply coating so that will adhere to the surface and be free from skips, runs, and drips. Ability to interpret drawings and blueprints. Determines amount of material needed. Makes major repairs in fabric and operates industrial type sewing machines. Knowledge and skill to use plastic bead welders and to vulcanize plastic or synthetic materials. Skill and knowledge to operate a variety of hand, power tools, and devices to cut, fit, join, fabricate, and install wooden parts. Education There is no substitution of education for specialized experience for this position.
