The role
The Camp Manager is expected to ensure the efficient management and smooth running of the camp. Through leading and supporting all other center staff members, the Camp Manager bears overall responsibility for meeting Alpadia’s ambition of an enjoyable and developing camp experience for all students, in an atmosphere that is both respectful and safe. This will involve managing the performance of all staff, quality controlling every aspect of the camp and completing all administrative tasks speedily and professionally. Our Camp Managers set the tone for the whole operation, and it is expected they will work carefully to prioritize and maintain Alpadia’s reputation at all times.
Key responsibilities
To achieve optimum management of the camp, the Camp Manager should ensure the following key responsibilities are carried out fully and competently.
Staff Management: Manage all staff effectively and respectfully, considering their personal development and providing all necessary support, to ensure they contribute to a high-quality programme that delivers on Alpadia’s aims for its courses. Lead daily meetings to drive performance and relay important messages. Lead and assist with the training and induction of staff members. Assist the regional manager with the performance management of staff in cases of deficient performance and disciplinary action. Ensure all daily tasks are completed efficiently and within set deadlines to maintain high operational standards.
Student Management: Safeguard and promote the wellbeing of all students in our care. Act as Designated Safeguarding Staff. Manage all students effectively and respectfully, following all Alpadia policies and rules, to ensure they enjoy and contribute fully to all aspects of Alpadia’s programme in a spirit of respect towards other students and staff. Take overall responsibility for the behaviour and discipline of students in camp leading on the big issues to find sensible and practical solutions.
Language Program: Line manage all teachers and/or the Senior Teacher to ensure Alpadia’s language program provides a developing and enjoyable experience for all students through high-quality Standard, Intensive and Individual Courses.
Activities Program: Assist the Activity Manager in line managing all activity leaders and/or the Senior Activity Leader, to ensure Alpadia’s activities are well prepared and delivered, with a developing and enjoyable Multi-activity, Premium, Evening and Excursion programme for all students.
Welfare and Health & Safety: Ensure relevant safeguarding, health and safety policies are understood and adhered to. Line manages all staff, including the Night-time Supervisor, to ensure Alpadia’s welfare provision is high quality, with all staff able to implement all Alpadia policies, so students can enjoy all parts of Alpadia’s camps in a safe and inclusive atmosphere. Respond personally to all emergencies that may endanger students and staff and/or put Alpadia’s reputation at risk.
Transfers: Take overall in-camp responsibility for the inbound and outbound airport transfers of students. The transfer manager will prepare the weekend airport schedule prior to the Camp Manager delivering a Friday night departure meeting with any students departing the next day. The Camp Manager will need a good understanding of Alpadia’s transfer processes to answer any student/parent questions.
Communication: Communicate effectively with all stakeholders in our camps, ensuring the host school and external partners find Alpadia to be a professional and respectful partner, parents/agents are kept fully up to date with all crucial elements of their student’s stay with us via our Sales and Admissions team and your line managers are aware of all key developments in the camp.
Customer Service: Provide excellent customer service by responding to student, parent, and staff inquiries promptly and professionally. Address any complaints or concerns effectively to ensure a high standard of satisfaction and support.
Administration: Ensure the administration, in terms of weekend check in/out class lists, registers and pocket money etc, is well organised and delivered to ensure the smooth running of the camp and follows all Alpadia procedures and policies. Lead and contribute towards managing the camp telephone, email inbox and record keeping.
Relationships: Manage your working relationships professionally and sensitively, providing support and feedback to your camp management team. Work closely with our school/college provider to maintain our existing positive relationship. Nurture a positive camp environment where employees feel supported and motivated to do their best. Support your management colleagues in their daily tasks to the benefit of the wider camp operation. Foster positive relationships with students, being approachable and supportive to enhance their overall camp experience.
Financial Control: Ensure the financial procedures in the camp are handled sensitively and professionally, strictly following Alpadia’s rules and taking full responsibility for the bank card and cash held at the camp. Ensure all expenditure is controlled tightly, taking a lead to protect Alpadia from unnecessary spending at all times.
HR Responsibilities: Collaborate with the HR department to ensure all staff understand and adhere to policies and procedures. Assist with matters related to staff pay, leave, and other HR-related issues, ensuring clarity and compliance. Maintain a thorough understanding of all staff job roles and responsibilities to support them effectively.
Team Participation and Professional Development: Engage actively in professional development and training opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge. Participate in weekly meetings to review performance, address challenges, and implement improvements to support the overall success of the camp.
Compliance: Ensure full compliance with all Alpadia policies and procedures, including being familiar with the accrediting body’s inspection criteria to maintain the highest operational standards.
Skills and Experience:
4.1 Essential:
Management experience in junior education / learning
Experience working with juniors
Experience in a role involving organization /travel/ education
Ability to manage a team of diverse personalities and skills
Professional experience in holiday course centers or similar structure
High sense of responsibility, organization and initiative
Ability to multitask and overcome stressful situations
Ability to work under pressure, multi-task, priorities tasks and meet tight deadlines
Ability to form and maintain appropriate relationships and personal boundaries with children and young people
A positive attitude to the use of authority and maintaining discipline
First Degree or similar
A high degree of IT competency - Outlook & MS Office (specifically Excel
4.2 Desirable:
Management experience in a summer school environment
Managing multiple departments and teams
Teaching qualification
Excellent English, with an additional European language
Emotional resilience in working with challenging behaviors
Demonstrates an exceptional level of attention to detail
Management degree
Safeguarding and Welfare experience with under 18s
Timetable
The working week is a varied and busy one and you will find there are always things to do. You should anticipate a demanding workload in a fast-moving, exciting environment. The Camp Manager is entitled to have one day off per week.
