The Alumni Outreach Specialist will support the bureau's global outreach efforts for alumni programming. This role will develop and execute overall alumni marketing and branding strategies, manage general social media outreach and digital campaigns, create marketing and web content for internal and external audiences, and serve as a lead point of contact for the bureau's alumni-related social networking and storytelling initiatives.
The Alumni Outreach Specialist will also lead outreach efforts designed to build and maintain the global alumni network, liaising with U.S. Embassies, State Department colleagues, NGOs, and alumni to promote the resources available to alumni via the International Exchange Alumni website.
**Education and Experience Requirements:**
+ Bachelor’s or master’s degree in journalism, communications, international affairs, public relations, or a related field
+ Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret-level security clearance
+ Minimum of 3 years of specialized experience in alumni outreach, digital marketing, communications, or a related field
**Required Skills and Competencies:**
+ Familiarity with U.S. foreign policy and international educational and cultural exchanges
+ Experience studying or working abroad
+ Proficiency in at least one foreign language
**Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in:**
+ Alumni.state.gov
+ Alumniarchive.state.gov
+ MS Office Suite
+ Adobe Creative Suite
+ Email marketing tools (e.g., MailChimp)
+ Knowledge of HTML is a plus
+ Proven experience in creating and managing content for social media and websites
+ Expertise in developing communication strategies for global and diverse audiences (preferably alumni audiences)
+ Strong web marketing and editing skills
+ Knowledge of social networking technologies
+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
+ Strong research, presentation, and creative skills
+ Flexible, team-oriented approach to work
The Alumni Outreach Specialist will play a vital role in developing and implementing effective communication strategies, managing digital platforms, fostering global alumni networks, and supporting the bureau's international exchange programs and initiatives through targeted outreach and engagement.
**Working Environment & Conditions**
This job operates in a professional office environment and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
This position is primarily indoors, consistent with a standard office position and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. The incumbent is required to stand, walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. The workload may require the incumbent to sit for extended periods of time. The incumbent must be able to read, do simple math calculations and withstand moderate amounts of stress.
The incumbent must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
