Ambulatory Pharmacist, Medication Access
Perform medication access services and perform prior authorization work as a part of UVA Specialty Pharmacy Medication Access Team. Will be expected to collaborate with patients, providers, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure the safe, effective, and affordable use of medications via prior authorization and patient assistance pathways. Will support our medication access technician team as a clinical point of contact. + Serve as a clinic resource for medication access technicians, helping them navigate formulary restrictions and prior authorization requirements + Review and submit appeals for specialty medications + Review and submit prior authorizations for specialty medications + Review patient records, lab results, other clinical information to support prior authorization and/or appeal submission + Accurately document all reviews, approvals, denials, and communications in the clinic’s electronic health record (EHR) system. + Utilize clinical guidelines, formulary restrictions and evidence-based practices in decision-making. + Collaborate with the clinic team members and medication access technicians to develop and implement strategies to streamline the prior authorization process. + Identify barriers to medication access and recommend solutions to improve efficiency and patient outcomes. + Stay informed about changes in medication coverage guidelines, pharmacy laws, and insurance regulations. + Assist patients in understanding medication access options, including prior authorization approvals, alternative therapies or financial assistance programs. + Enter prescribing clinician orders into the appropriate computer application. + Process prescribing clinician’s orders (prescriptions). + Oversee pharmacy technicians’ work. + Provide drug information to patients caregivers and providers. + Perform pharmacy functions according to Federal State local Health System and Department statutes regulations and published guideline documents. Position Compensation Range: $52.46 - $83.94 Hourly MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education: Bachelor's Degree required Experience: No experience required Licensure: Commonwealth of Virginia State Board of Pharmacy License. American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Job requires standing and traveling for prolonged periods. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull < 20lbs.
