The Crew Leader is responsible for managing construction projects and leading crew members on customer sites, ensuring safe and efficient completion of rail track construction tasks.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesProvide hands-on direction and implementation of track work, rail yard projects, and other assigned tasks.Determine materials, equipment, and staff requirements for each project.Ensure all work complies with company operating procedures, FRA rules, standards, and safety guidelines to maximize asset utilization and control costs.Oversee the work of the crew, ensuring tasks are completed in a safe, timely, and efficient manner.Lead onboarding and training activities for new employees, ensuring they are properly introduced to company standards and safety procedures.Perform other related duties as required.QualificationsThe qualifications listed below are required to successfully perform the essential duties of this position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these functions.Education and/or ExperienceHigh school diploma or GED.5–7 years of experience in railroad track construction.2+ years of experience in a supervisory or management role is highly preferred.Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesComprehensive knowledge of track structure, construction, maintenance, and defect identification.Proficient in operating, and training others to operate, backhoes, front-end loaders, and other heavy equipment.Strong attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality work.Superior communication skills; must be comfortable engaging in verbal, non-verbal, and written communication, with strong active listening abilities.Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and manage team dynamics effectively.Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and multitask with minimal supervision.Language SkillsAbility to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.Ability to write basic correspondence.Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group settings to customers, clients, and coworkers.Mathematical SkillsAbility to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.Reasoning AbilityAbility to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed instructions.Ability to address typical problems that arise during rail car switching.Certificates/Licenses/RegistrationsCertification required when operating on track controlled by the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA).Physical DemandsThe physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to perform the essential functions of this job.
