What You'll Be Doing
Within CIBC Capital Markets’ Office of the Group Head, the Sustainability Advisory team is dedicated to advising our clients on accessing capital to enable their transition to clean energy and meet sustainability goals. The team works directly with corporate and institutional clients and stakeholders, as well as supports CIBC relationship managers across the Capital Markets franchise (Investment and Corporate Banking, Global Markets) and the broader enterprise, in their discussions with clients regarding how companies can plan and finance their energy transition.
The Sustainability Advisory team provides business development, transaction support and subject matter expertise associated with four strategic areas: energy infrastructure development (focusing on energy clients who have significant capital needs in the face of electrification); decarbonizing sectors other than energy (e.g. real estate, metals & mining, diversified), climate technologies and carbon markets. The group also facilitates thought leadership and brand-building related to energy transition and sustainability, as well as leads sponsorships and partnerships with industry and academia fostering the energy transition ecosystem in Canada and beyond.
As an Analyst in the Sustainability Advisory team, you will be making a real difference to our clients by helping to develop customized financing and advisory solutions, supporting day-to-day business development efforts as well as deal activities. This may involve such duties as: researching and analyzing market data; developing detailed financial models for the various financings and product development opportunities the group is involved with; preparing presentations and reports to support key initiatives and projects; and assisting with content ideation, research and execution on thought leadership deliverables, including (but not limited to) event planning and podcast production.
You will also be working collaboratively with senior members in the Office of the Group Head, as well as with executives across the Capital Markets franchise. You will be expected to support the team and internal relationship managers in providing advisory services, as well as help to lead initiatives that extend the energy transition theme more broadly across the bank, bringing you into contact with leaders across public policy advisory, Indigenous markets, enterprise ESG strategy, the commercial bank and much more.
At CIBC we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role. Details on your work arrangement (proportion of on-site and remote work) will be discussed at the time of your interview.

Decarbonizing Industries - Assisting the group with research in support of sectoral decarbonization opportunities, such as Real Estate financing for deep building energy retrofits; modelling the economics of various financial alternatives for decarbonizing industry; and supporting internal teams with presentation materials for sustainability discussions with clients and product innovation.
