**How will you make an impact in this role?**
The Credit and Fraud Risk team is seeking an Analyst. This person will build and manage credit risk strategies for American Express consumer and commercial credit products for the Japan market to enable profitable growth. In this role you will be able to:
+ Fuse analytical skills with business strategies: The credit card industry is growing and, by nature, it includes a wealth of data on consumers and businesses. You will not only analyze data but also propose enhanced strategies, delivering meaningful outcomes that will change the trajectory of our business.
+ Work on business problems in totality: You will be engaged for the entire life cycle of strategy development, from finding opportunities through analysis, to proposing enhancements to senior leaders, collaborating with operations teams, business partners, technology teams to make it happen, and tracking the outcomes.
+ Work in an international environment: Collaborating and influencing across borders is a core part of the role, and you will have the opportunity to build both local and global networks.
**What You** **’** **ll Do**
* Lead and/or support initiatives for enhancing risk strategies. Typically, you’ll analyze risk strategies to uncover potential opportunities, estimate expected benefit size, confirm market requirements such as market practice, local regulations and customer expectations, give presentations to leaders and stakeholders to get their buy-in, support tech teams on system changes and test as well as track results. Strategies can include but are not limited to underwriting (which applicants to approve), authorization (which transactions to approve) and line control (how much capacity to provide).
* Effectively interact and collaborate with colleagues from the central Risk Management organization, as well as Operations and local business teams to enhance and implement credit strategies and processes.
* Closely monitor the key metrics of credit performance to diagnose problems and identify opportunities for improvement and/or corrections. Perform ad-hoc analysis, as needed.
+ Deeply understand the market landscape and competitor practices
+ Develop expert knowledge of American Express systems and infrastructure, and leverage this knowledge to define feasible solutions.
+ Find new data sources and maximize use of existing data sources to improve model and strategy performance.
**Qualifications**
+ Strong communication skills with the ability to influence diverse audiences in a cross-functional team environment
+ A passion for solving problems with data, technical know-how, and strong attention to detail
+ Experience as a self-starter, with ability to analyze data and derive meaningful insights to affect business outcomes
+ Ability to drive change by quickly learning from the customer experience, market environment, regulatory context, and operations
+ Experience with statistical programming language e.g. SAS, SQL, R, Python or willingness and ability to become proficient
+ Proficiency in Japanese and English
+ Bachelor's degree
