BU & LOB Description:

 

Positions in Risk Management lead the development of credit, operational, enterprise, and fraud policies designed to profitably grow the portfolio, while ensuring excellent customer experience. These policies utilize mathematical models and other techniques to understand and predict customer behavior. At the Analyst level, the employee does not have a people leadership role but is often viewed as an emerging expert in the field. Focuses on resolution of complex problems. Conducts analyses, recommends changes to policies, and establishes procedures that affect immediate organization.

 

Smart Monitoring is a platform owned and managed by the Global Risk Compliance and it leverages high technology, automation, and data science to detect, predict and prevent risks. The Smart Monitoring Center of Excellence is comprised of group of experts that leverage the Smart Monitoring platform to build and manage Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) that monitor risks across AXP, supporting Business Units and Staff Groups, Product Lines and Processes. Smart Monitoring Center of Excellence team supports the businesses with a mission to enable business growth and objectives while maintaining a strong control environment.

 

We are seeking an Analyst to join this exciting opportunity to grow Smart Monitoring COE multi-folds in 2025. As a member of SM COE, the incumbent will be responsible for identifying opportunities to apply new and innovative ways to monitor risks through KRIs and execute appropriate strategies in partnership with Business, OE, Compliance, and other stakeholder teams.

 

Roles & Responsibilities:

 

Work on defining, developing and managing key risk indicators (KRIs) and setting thresholds for review or action for different risk types. Work to design and build comprehensive and complete control testing using the Source of Origin and applying MECE (mutually exclusive and collectively exhaustive) approach. Also support data validation and contribute to creation of coding logic to build key risk indicators (KRIs). Partner closely with product/process owners to fully understand critical business processes, to identify risks and potential points of failure and also prioritize automation opportunities. Partner closely with platform and capabilities teams to understand end -to-end data transfer and hand-off risks associated to process fulfillment and delivery of customer promises. Be a trusted advisor for key business stakeholders for matters related to the KRI/Smart Monitoring testing environment across their products and processes. Apply innovative concepts to measure and manage risk consistently with regulatory and governance requirements. Collaborate closely with First Line of Defense (FLoD) to understand business priority and execute against the prioritization roadmap for the testing automation strategy. Identify and escalate to senior leadership observations, high residual-risk areas, and emerging risk themes. Partner with Technology, Risk, Product Management, Compliance, and other key Subject Matter Experts on initiatives to ensure standards/deliverables are achieved.  Required Qualifications:

 

2+ years of work experience in data-driven analytics especially in the financial services industry and risk management. Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Business, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or Engineering disciplines. Experience in technical skills such as Big Data, SQL, Hive, Python and Google Big Query Exceptional analytical skills, highly detail oriented. Ability to understand large complex processes and translate technical process jargon into simpler messages suited for all levels of the organization.       Qualitative/quantitative solutioning/problem solving in complex and unstructured environment. Team player with strong communication skills, and ability to develop relationships with colleagues. Self-motivated with the ability to operate independently and handle multiple workstreams and ad-hoc tasks simultaneously. Knowledge of AXP data environment and systems a plus. Experience with Smart Monitoring is a plus.
