Analytical Research Assistant

The Research and Development Analytical Technician conducts chemical and physical laboratory tests to assist chemists, engineers, and production in making qualitative and quantitative analyses for research and development of products or processes. This position reports to the Analytical Laboratory Manager. As required, the Analytical Technician will also perform quality control testing on raw materials and finished products to ensure compliance with established standards and specifications. This position may also be required to perform other R&D functions as directed by the Analytical Laboratory Manager.
Responsibilities:
Set up and conduct chemical experiments, tests, and analyses using techniques such as chromatography, spectroscopy, microscopy, rheology, and physical and chemical separation techniques Collect, interpret and report data adhering to guidelines on documentation Develop technical reports to document experiment and interpretation of results Provide technical support and assistance to chemists and engineers Monitor raw material and product quality to ensure compliance with standards and specifications Responsible for calibration, performance monitoring and operation of equipment Provide and maintain a safe and clean work environmentKnowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Knowledge of working in a laboratory environment Problem solving skills Strong computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Word & Excel Multi-tasked, organized, and detail oriented Proficient verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate in a professional manner Able to work well in a team environmentEquipment, Materials, & Data:
Thermal analysis and rheological instruments (DSC, TGA, RPA, DHR) Spectroscopy instruments (FTIR, MS) Chromatography instruments (GC, LC) Microscopy instruments (SEM, optical) Laboratory physical test equipment (Instrons, viscometers, and others) Adhesive, sealant, & tape application equipment (paint brush & roller, spray gun, caulking gun)Data Used
Lab and trial reports in a laboratory information management system Formulations ASTM and ISO Standards Technical Data Bulletins and Product Data Sheets Purchasing Specifications Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) / Safety Data Sheets (SDS) Supplier Quality Reports and Certificates of Analysis (COA) Local, State, and Federal environmental regulationsEducational and Experience Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or other related physical science discipline with no laboratory experience required. Candidates with 1-3 years of experience is preferred. Associate’s degree in Chemistry or other related physical science discipline with minimum of 3 years of laboratory experience.
