Anesthesia Technician
* POSITION STANDARDS * Minimum Qualifications * Education: High School Diploma or GED * Certifications: BLS certification from the American Heart Association, NH Med Tech Preferred Qualifications * Experience: At least 1 year of experience as an anesthesia technician or in a related emergency/medical field. Alternatively, graduation from an accredited Anesthesia Tech school or program is preferred. * Certification: Current Anesthesia Technician Certification is preferred. Skills * Confidentiality: Ability to handle confidential material with maturity, sensitivity, and discretion. * Communication: Strong interpersonal and communication skills. * Independence: Ability to work independently and effectively prioritize tasks. * POSITION PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS * Anything listed here requires a pre-employment physical by Employee Health to determine if the employee is capable of meeting the requirements. * Physical Activity: * * Sitting 1-33% * Walking 34-66% * Standing 34-66% * Bending 34-66% * Squatting 34-66% * Climbing 1-33% * Kneeling 1-33% * Twisting 1-33% * Upper Extremity: * * Lifting 0-35lbs 34-66% * Lifting > 35lbs 34-66% * Carrying 0-35lbs 34-66% * Carrying > 35lbs 34-66% * Carrying > 35lbs. using equipment 34-66% * Push/Pull/Lift/Carry: * * Pushing 0-300lbs. using equipment 34-66% * PART TWO:FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITY * Position Objective * An anesthesia technician plays a critical role in the operating room, assisting anesthesia personnel and ensuring the smooth functioning of anesthesia-related activities * Performance Expectation * Equipment Preparation and Management * Special Equipment Needs: Prepare necessary equipment for patients being readied for anesthesia in the operating room (OR), including blocks, IV supplies and arterial and central venous pressure (CVP) lines. Provide technical support during the preparation and insertion of specialized invasive monitoring equipment. * Equipment and Supplies Management: Manage equipment, supplies, and medication preparation according to established guidelines to maintain safe, efficient, and cost-effective operations. * Cleanliness and Organization: Maintain proper standards of cleanliness and organization in anesthesia work areas by assembling, cleaning, or disposing of equipment and supplies before and after each case and at the end of the day. * Stocking and Maintenance: Stock and maintain equipment, drugs, and supplies in anesthesia workrooms and carts, including specialty carts like Pediatrics, Arterial Crash Cart, Local Anesthetic Systemic Toxicity (LAST) and Malignant Hyperthermia. Patient and Equipment Handling * Patient Positioning: Assist in positioning and transferring of patients in the OR. * Preventative Maintenance: Work with vendors to perform required preventative maintenance checks and keep records of equipment status. * Anesthesia Machine Testing: Perform testing of each anesthesia machine at the start of each day and report malfunctioning equipment to appropriate personnel. * Record Maintenance: Maintain records of anesthesia procedures and equipment based on specific needs or individual preferences. Emergency and Compliance * Emergency Assistance: Assist anesthesiologists/Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) in emergency situations by preparing and handling instruments and supplies. * Compliance: Adhere to Universal Precautions and surgical asepsis standards. Administrative and Training Duties * Clerical Work: Complete clerical tasks for the Anesthesia Department, including charges, ordering supplies, supporting quality initiatives, reporting and operational analysis. * State of Readiness: Ensure all anesthetizing locations are prepared and ready for use. * Equipment Evaluation: Test, maintain, and evaluate new and current anesthesia equipment; order, stock, and maintain supplies and medications. Cleaning and Sterilization * Equipment Sterilization: Ensure that reusable equipment and anesthetic machines are cleaned and/or sterilized per manufacturer's instructions for use (IFUs). Training and Development * Training and Mentoring: Train, mentor, and orient new employees as needed. * Personal Growth: Maintain personal growth and development by participating in in-service and continuing education programs.
