Animal Care Technologist/Advanced Animal Care Technologist

Summary

There is a full-time opportunity for an Animal Care Technologist/Advanced Animal Care Technologist. The employee works under general supervision to practice basic animal care, husbandry, colony management, animal room maintenance and operations, information systems and record keeping.  The employee is expected to progress following a prescribed curriculum, learning objectives and practical performance standards.  The employee is responsible to learn and demonstrate proficiency in all aspects of the curriculum including general duties performed for the work areas in disinfection/sanitation, barrier entry/exit and safety procedures.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED and knowledge of barrier room function and animal husbandry as normally acquired by 3-5 years' experience in a position in which animal husbandry was a major job responsibilitySuccessful completion of Lab Animal Science I and II is requiredDemonstrated ability to maintain mouse colonies and applying proper record keepingDemonstrated team playerDemonstrated ability to identify sick/ill/deviant mice with guidanceDemonstrated ability to accurately record and report activities with software and enter/extra dataOral and written communication skillsInterpersonal relationship skillsOrganizing and coordinating skills; detail oriented, flexible, ability to multi-task, shift priorities and remain focused and positiveDemonstrated ability to interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and proceduresDemonstrated ability to communicate and relate effectively and appropriately with participantsAbility to exercise patience, understanding, creativity, and flexibilitySalary range: $21.60-$31.33/hr, pay is determined by years of experience.
