Summary This position is located at the Pet Care Center in Fort Belvoir, Virginia. Responsibilities Serves as a working leader of three or more employees in accomplishing animal caretaker work. The highest non-supervisory work led is Animal Caretaker NA-5048-05. Passes on to other workers instructions received from supervisor, assigning immediate tasks to be performed by individual members of the group led. Checks work in progress and upon completion for compliance with the supervisor's instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods and deadlines, and urges or advises other employees to follow the instructions and to meet deadlines. Works along with other workers, setting the pace performing non-supervisory work of the same kind and level as that done by the group led. Insures that needed equipment, supplies, and materials are available. Obtains needed information or decisions from the supervisor on problems that come up during the work. Provides information to supervisor on status and progress of work, causes of delays, and overall operations. Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Standard Qualifications: Knowledge of animals' characteristics, needs and behavior, and skill in observing, handling and caring for animals. Able to follow complex instructions, ability to maintain records. PCS Costs Payment Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs are not authorized, based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government's interest. FWS Allowances and Differentials This is a federal wage schedule (FWS) position. All FWS employees are entitled to overtime work for work in excess of 8 hours in a day or in excess of 40 hours in the administrative workweek, whichever provides the greater benefit to the employee. Regular full-time, regular part-time (to include those in a limited tenure appointment category) and regularly scheduled flexible employees are entitled to Sunday premium pay when working Sunday shifts. A FWS employee will be paid a night shift differential of 7.5% for the entire shift when a majority of the employee's regularly scheduled non-overtime hours of work occur between the hours of 1500 and 2400. A FWS employee will be paid a night shift differential of 10% of the scheduled rate if a majority of the employee's regularly scheduled non-overtime hours of work occur between the hours of 2300-0800. Incentives and Bonuses Incentives will not be paid. Non-Foreign Overseas Allowances Non-foreign overseas allowances, cost of living (COLA), and differentials will not be paid, contingent upon eligibility.
