Join the Six Flags Great Adventure team as an animal education intern. Get hands on experience caring for a variety of species within the collection. Primary responsibilities include: safely educating park guests about our animals and the importance of species survival and conservation. Individuals will assist Safari associates in the care of various animals. Six Flags Great Adventure will work with your learning institution to fulfill curriculum requirements for collegiate credit. This internship is heavily focused on guest interaction.
General Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to):
Memorize all safari animal species facts in a timely manner.Stand in zone and talk with guests about the animals in that zone.Perform informal keeper talks, story time, games, arts and crafts, and meet in greets to public on and off microphone.Participate in our Safari Programs as assigned.Be available to cross train in other areas of safari including, tour guiding, gate guarding and station attendant.Support our 'Save an Icon' conservation initiative by communicating the program to guests.Maintain a safe and clean work area for coworkers, guests, and animals.Adhere to all Six Flags and Safari Department policies and protocols.Adhere to Safari Park internship program outline.Clean and care for hoof stock animals.Clean and care for reptiles, insects, amphibians, turtles, and tortoises.Assist with cleaning bird and mammal exhibits with a spotter.Know how to prepare and weigh out diets for all animals.Observe animal training sessions to get a better understanding of operant conditioning concepts.Supervised handling of small mammals, insects, and reptiles based on your progression in your internship.Make daily observation of animals and report any abnormalities to a supervisor.Know how to properly record all animal husbandry including weights, diets, treatments and fecal observations into ZIMS(animal records software).Complete end of internship project based on your experience you gained from Six Flags.
Qualifications:
18 years of age or older.Must have a valid driver’s license.Working towards a Bachelor’s degree in related field or has previous animal experience.Outgoing, approachable, and positive attitude.Motivated and in charge of your own success.Be able to lift and move 50 pounds or more.Be able to sit or stand for long periods, bend, crouch and climb.Be available to work nights, weekends, and holidays.Be able to work in or around water and be exposed to outdoor weather conditions.Able to work up to 40 hours a week from Memorial Day to Labor Day. (Shifts may be available before or after timeframe) depending on your availability and department needs.Applicants must have at least one weekend day availability. Open weekend availability preferred. Must be able to
work holidays.
