The position monitors system and KUOW communications and news wires to provide programming updates. This is an hourly position and hours will vary. Must be able to work a varied schedule when required, including some early mornings, evenings and weekend work. A successful fill in Announcer serves as an important local on-air voice for the KUOW listening audience. On-air shifts may include working as part of an in-studio team. The position can also include working alone during early mornings, nights and weekends. On-air work includes writing and voicing various break elements during nationally broadcasts programs, both live and recorded. As part of the KUOW staff you will regularly work with members of the business support, IT and broadcast operations teams. As part of a shift, an Announcer must maintain a professional studio environment while also maintaining positive, productive relationships with colleagues both inside and outside of the studio. **KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:** **Announcing (80%)** • Serve as primary announcer and board operator for assigned shift • Monitor system and KUOW communications and news wire to provide programming updates • Produce, plan, write, edit and voice both live and automated break content during shift • Prerecord announcing breaks for automated programming **Audio Distribution (10%)** • Assist with Public Radio Program Distribution system using broadcast software such as Content Depot, PRX, FTP, in conjunction with Zetta and NewsBoss. **Other duties as assigned (10%)** • Attends and participates in department or organization meetings and trainings • May back up other announcer shifts as needed • Provide production support for on-air fundraising drives • Support internal station initiatives. **KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITY** **RACIAL EQUITY** Actively contribute to a workplace culture of anti-racism, belonging, and inclusion that is supportive and welcoming to all. • Actively consider language, terms, phrases and pronunciation when writing and delivering break content, such as on-air promotional copy. • Actively support and communicate an understanding that an in-studio environment may require terse, tense and short verbal communications that should be conducted in a professional manner and not include personal attacks or yelling. **SUCCESS PROFILE** **Knowledge of:** • Experience using broadcast automation software including Zetta. • Knowledge and experience using a digital broadcast console. • FCC broadcast rules covering on-air language and EAS procedures. **Ability to:** • Ability to work in live broadcasting environment, including taking direction from in-studio producer or network communications. • Work alone in broadcast studio outside of regular business hours. **MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS** • Bachelor’s degree and one year of professional broadcast experience with a background in production and announcing including personable and authoritative delivery, audio engineering skills and a knowledge of professional broadcast standards and practices; or equivalent combination of education/experience. **WORKING CONDITIONS** • Duties may occasionally require weekend work and working outside of regular business hours on weekdays. • Cubicle/Open workspace environment which may result in additional or higher levels of noise and visual distractions. • Ability to work alone, without supervision, during weekends, early mornings and evenings. **KUOW Equal Employment Opportunity Statement** _At KUOW, we believe that attracting and retaining diverse staff is crucial to serving the communities where we work and live.
