Description
Robert Half is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Accounts Payable Specialist for a contract position. This role will support a local school district’s financial operation by processing vendor invoices, ensuring timely and accurate payments, and assisting with day-to-day accounting functions. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills, the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, and a deep understanding of accounts payable procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
+ Process and verify vendor invoices, ensuring accuracy and compliance with district policies and procedures.
+ Ensure timely and accurate payment processing, including preparation of checks, ACH payments, and wire transfers.
+ Review and reconcile accounts payable data to ensure accuracy and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
+ Maintain an organized and up-to-date filing system for all accounts payable documentation.
+ Assist with month-end and year-end closing procedures, including reconciling accounts payable reports and generating necessary reports.
+ Collaborate with various departments to resolve issues related to invoicing and payments.
+ Communicate with vendors regarding payment inquiries, billing issues, and contract terms.
+ Assist with audits by providing supporting documentation and answering questions related to accounts payable transactions.
+ Monitor accounts payable aging reports to ensure timely payments and maintain positive vendor relationships.
+ Adhere to school district accounting policies, state regulations, and best practices for accounts payable processing.
Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent; associate’s degree in accounting or related field preferred.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in accounts payable or a related accounting role, preferably in a school district or non-profit environment.
Strong knowledge of accounts payable processes, general accounting principles, and financial reporting.
Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel (experience with [specific software, e.g., Tyler Munis, Banner, or similar] preferred).
Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with internal staff and external vendors.
Ability to handle sensitive financial information with confidentiality and integrity.
Knowledge of school district accounting procedures and public sector finance is a plus.
