Orthopedic Physician Assistant / Nurse Practitioner in Pinehurst

FirstHealth of the Carolinas – a private, not-for-profit healthcare network serving the mid-Carolinas - is seeking two Advanced Practice Providers to establish a new inpatient orthopedic service.

Position Highlights

About the Opportunity:

Assists the supervising physician in the management of patients and performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures under the physician’s supervision. Responsibilities include:

Obtain patient health histories and complete physical examinations. Document findings, noting pertinent normal and abnormal findings.Assess patient for change in status and institute appropriate interventions. Initiate necessary emergency interventions to stabilize patient.Provide ongoing outpatient care of assigned patients as well as episodic patients.Prescribe medications within defined scope of practice (including schedule 11-V controlled substances) and write orders and prescriptions as necessary for the care of the patient in accordance with Federal and State Law.Order diagnostic studies such as laboratory tests, and x-rays.Carry out health promotion and disease prevention activities.Provide education and counseling to patients and families for preventative care, medical conditions and use of prescribed treatment and drugs.Administer topical anesthesia.Provide preoperative consultations.Write progress notes and narrative discharge summaries.Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to assist the physician in diagnosing medical and surgical problems.Prescribe treatments and services for quality patient care; records the normal and abnormal data for review by the physicians.Explain the necessity, preparation, nature and anticipated effects of scheduled diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to the patient.Monitor progress of patients, report progress to supervising physician and maintain record of each patient’s progress.Provide continuity of care by developing and implementing patient management plans.Protect patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.

Qualifications PA must be a graduate of an AMA approved Physician Assistant program and have NCCPA certification.NP must be a graduate of a nurse practitioner education program and have national certification.Must be able to exercise a high degree of initiative, judgment, and discretion in decision making.Clean background, NC licensure, NC DEA, and AHA ACLS required.
