Job Description Summary:

Responsible for planning and directing the delivery of Urgent Care/Primary Care services and health education programs in a primary care clinic setting. Works under general established supervision using protocols as required. Models appropriate behavior to employees as exemplified in the Quality Plus manner, which reflects a commitment to the Continuous Process Improvement Plan (CPI). Position reporting to the Department Director. Flexible work hours; three days a week, subject to non-traditional hours, in exempt status.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Collaborates with the precepting physician in establishing/ reviewing protocols for managing acute and long-term medical needs of the patients. Provides medical services and health education to patients under the supervision of the preceptor. Performs a complete physical exam, obtains a complete medical history and records findings. Orders appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures.  Interprets and integrates data to determine preliminary diagnoses and therapeutic plan.  Performs necessary diagnostic and therapeutic procedures according to approved protocols developed with and under the supervision of the intensivists which may include the following but are not limited to the following:  securing, recording and evaluating the health psychosocial and developmental history of patients, ordering laboratory and x-ray studies, carrying out prescription drug orders under protocols, management of common or chronic illnesses, referrals, etc.  Administers or gives orders to nursing support to administer medications and injections in compliance with state law and hospital guidelines. Functions as a patient advocate, conducts follow-up care and coordinates care with other healthcare providers and makes appropriate referrals for continuity of care. Employee documents the process of critical and acute care delivery and procedures and maintains accurate and complete medical records in a timely fashion. Demonstrates effective guest excellence skills with patients, families, and guest and provides education counseling that will enhance patient care and preventative knowledge. Responsible for supporting staff in providing quality care and promoting quality outcomes. Supports and guides a working environment that stays current with research and guidelines in critical and acute care medicine. Performs related responsibilities as required or directed and remain on-site until employee’s assigned patient care duties have been completed. Be able to multi-task and prioritize workload in a fast-paced environment, lift and move patients as necessary, and work on a computer for sustained periods of time. Practice Employee’s profession using evidence-based practices; standardized protocols and order sets; appropriate utilization of resources; and coordinator of care to achieve the most appropriate length of stay. Performs related responsibilities as required or directed.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:

BSN and a Master's Degree in Nursing with successful completion of a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Program as approved by the state in which your position is hired to work in.Specialty training/certification in Critical/Acute Care or equivalent experience in an Acute/Critical Care Unit preferred.

LICENSURE, REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION:

RN license, APN license and certification for ACNP or NCCPA certification for PACurrent DEA License issued by the Drug Enforcement AgencyIf you are in a state that requires you to work a certain number of hours with your supervising physician, (Example: Missouri requires you to work 1000 hours with your supervising physician before applying for your BNDD and DEA) you must supply a copy to Human Resources and your Director as soon as the requirements are met and DEA is received)Current BLS and ACLS certificationResponsible for Continuing Education units annuallyFundamental Critical Care Support Certification preferredDOT certification

EXPERIENCE:

Prefer two years’ experience in a Critical/Acute Care setting.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of nurse practitioner principles or PA principles and techniques in a Critical/Acute care settingDemonstrate the ability to work cooperatively and productively in a team environment with a diverse set of employees, patients and families.Possess computer skills sufficient to conduct word processing for document development and patient record documentation.
