Overview ***This position is physically located in the Marshall Islands in support of LOGCAP*** Under the supervision of the HVAC Supervisor, the Appliance Shop Lead manages, schedules and participates in installs, services, and repairs of stoves, refrigerators, dishwashing machines, and other electrical household or commercial appliances, using hand tools and test equipment, and following wiring diagrams and manufacturers' specifications. Connects appliances to power sources; examines appliances during operating cycles to detect excess vibration, overheating, fluid leaks, and loose parts; and disassembles appliances to examine mechanical and electrical parts. Traces electrical circuits, following diagrams and locates shorts and grounds using ohmmeter, calibrates timers, thermostats; adjusts contact points; and cleans and washes parts using wire brushes, buffers, and solvent to remove carbon, grease, and dust. Replaces worn or defective parts, such as switches, pumps, bearings, transmissions, belts, gears, blowers, and defective wiring; repairs and adjusts appliance motors; reassembles appliances; adjusts pulleys; and lubricates moving parts using hand tools and lubricating equipment Responsibilities This position description is subject to change at any time as needed to meet the requirements of the program or company. + Installs, services, and repairs washers and dryers, using hand tools and test equipment, and following wiring diagrams and manufacturers' specifications. + Connects appliances to power sources and test meters, such as wattmeter, ammeter, or voltmeter; observes readings on meters and graphic recorders; examines appliances during operating cycles to detect excess vibration, overheating, fluid leaks, and loose parts; and disassembles appliances to examine mechanical and electrical parts. + Traces electrical circuits, following diagrams and locates shorts and grounds using ohmmeter, calibrates timers, thermostats; adjusts contact points; and cleans and washes parts using wire brushes, buffers, and solvent to remove carbon, grease, and dust. + Replaces worn or defective parts, such as switches, pumps, bearings, transmissions, belts, gears, blowers, and defective wiring; repairs and adjusts appliance motors; reassembles appliances; adjusts pulleys; and lubricates moving parts using hand tools and lubricating equipment. + Performs other duties as assigned Qualifications + Minimum Qualifications: Education/Certifications: One-year related experience may be substituted for one year of education if degree is required. + Licenses/Certifications: + Must be a U.S. Citizen + High school graduate or equivalent required. + EPA Section 608 Certification required + Trades school certificate/diploma preferred. + Experience: + Two (2) years hands-on experience maintaining and troubleshooting HVAC window units and other small appliances. + Two (2) years of leadership experience + Five (5) years of experience working in Public Works / facility Maintenance preferably in a military environment. + Skills: + Must possess good organizational skills + Ability to work with a diverse workforce + Strong trouble shooting skills required + Ability to read, interpret and follow manuals, exploded view diagrams, engineering sketches, charts, and work orders + Ability to perform mathematical calculations required on the job + Ability to use logic in troubleshooting problems. + Ability to successfully plan maintenance projects from start to completion and meet deadlines. + Must be willing to adapt to rapidly changing priorities in a fast-paced work environment. + Working Conditions: + Must be capable of working in an extreme weather conditions with temperatures exceeding 120 degrees Fahrenheit. + Indoor and/or outdoor environment with very adverse and harsh conditions (i.e., hot, wet, tropical environment with average temperatures of 130 degrees in the summer months). + Includes some industrial production environment conditions as well. + The worker is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside. + The worker is subject to noise. There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard about ambient noise level. + The worker is subject to hazards. Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals + Physical Requirements: + Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. + Work may require heavy lifting, stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, and working with or in areas where a potential could exist for exposure to physical, chemical, or biological agents. + Employee use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required for some situations.
