Application Delivery Lead

The Application Delivery Lead will be responsible for a portfolio of applications within the QBE estate and will oversee all of the activities touching those applications to ensure that the applications within their remit are well managed, secure and have a defined roadmap. They will also participate fully in the evaluation, recommendation and implementation of new Applications within their portfolio. Additionally, they will be responsible for managing / directing Application Specialists and Systems Analysts who role will be support the Application Delivery Lead in the delivery of the required IT services for their portfolio of applications as well as delivering / supporting delivery of change to the application.

Primary Responsibilities

• Operating on behalf of the functionally aligned Head of Technology the Application Delivery Lead will through a team of aligned Systems Analysts and Application Specialists
•Manage the given suite of applications within the IT Application Portfolio in the key Application Services areas of Application Service Delivery, Application Support, Application Governance & Integrity and Application Release and Roadmap
•Serve as the primary liaison with Application Development and Maintenance Managed Service Providers, Infrastructure and other third-party application service providers/vendors to meet Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and delivery commitments
•Participate in defining and implementing a consistent application delivery and management strategy and governance structure
•Support the process of identifying and selecting new applications to meet a specific business purpose when the need arises
•Support the Business planning cycle and ensure that specific application initiatives are appropriate
•For packaged/purchased applications, collaborate with the vendors to manage the application life cycle for patch management and security reviews to minimize risk for the organization
•Execute the release management process for delivering maintenance and enhancement requests that are determined to be delivered as part of an application release as required
•Facilitate group and application review meetings around technical design, decision-making and problem solving to ensure quality solutions and services are delivered
•Develop and manage direct relationships with business relationship managers and IT subject matter experts by ensuring business solutions align with identified goals and priorities and explaining how process automation through IT solutions can best achieve business goals
•Maintain processes to monitor ungoverned IT and on-board appropriate applications into the application portfolio
•Research internal or external third-party systems solutions that can be leveraged to meet business requirements
•Accountable for ensuring adherence to Disaster Recovery Policy; responsible for maintaining Disaster Recovery Technical Recovery Plans (TRPs) and participating in Disaster Recovery exercises
•Influence adoption of technology recommendations to improve the performance of an application or application portfolio.
•Support and ensure an effective continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD) pipeline exists to build, integrate and deploy software release to various platforms across SDLC and releases can be rolled back safely if necessary.

Required Education

• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience

Required Experience

• 10+ years relevant experience

Preferred Experience

• Experience working in Financial services
•Experience in Application development, design & integration
•Previous experience in a direct supervisory role in management administrative capacity or advanced technical leadership
•Proven delivery in Change delivery and project management
•Proven experience of providing assurance on applications across multiple users
•Relevant experience of managing a team of IT analysts and developers including 3rd party management of suppliers and vendors (including budgeting & prioritizing resources, leading, coaching, developing & motivating staff)

Preferred Knowledge

• Good knowledge of application testing approaches
•An understanding of ITIL Application Management practices and processes
•Sound knowledge of managing application services
•Good knowledge of application architecture and digital: concepts, practices and tools
•Sound awareness of developing IT/insurance & cross industry/competitor trends (applications, delivery models, new technology concepts etc)
•A deep understanding of the enterprise's business and industry, key principles of business and competitive strategy, and evolving digital and technology trends
•Sound knowledge of Project delivery methods

• General office jobs: Work is generally performed in an office environment in which there is not substantial exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
