Job Description SummarySystems engineering is a cross-functional engineering discipline centered on an approach, mindset, and process. All activities that consider both the business and the technical needs of the customers with the goal of providing a quality product that meets the users needs. The discipline that executes a robust process of design, creation, and optimization of systems, consisting of identification and quantification of system requirements, creation of alternate system design concepts, performance of design trade studies, selection and implementation of the best designs and verification that the design is properly integrated and executed. Process that proceeds from concept to production to operation.
Impacts quality of own work and the work of others on the team. Executes standard operational/technical tasks typically subject to instructions and work routines. There is latitude to rearrange the sequence to complete task/duties based on changing work situations.

Job Description Summary

The Application engineer provides technical support to both the regional and global teams on consulting studies. This is done through a solutions approach demonstrating both technical expertise and building customer credibility. The consulting approach aims to identify and share current and emerging customer technical needs to enhance our tactical and strategic product position.

 

Roles and Responsibilities

As a member of Energy Consulting, the successful candidate will be an active contributor to GE Vernova business initiatives related to power systems equipment and services. This position requires a wide range of skills including:

Contributing to multiple project teams to perform sophisticated technical analysis of electrical power systems. Development and regular updates to production cost simulation and expansion planning models for various regions as a support to the global and regional teams. Preparing proposals and work plans based on customer needs. Managing project technical work, cost, and schedule Compiling results of technical analysis to produce detailed, concise, analytical reports· Enhancing industry knowledge and presenting technical content in regional forums. Documenting and presenting project findings and deliverables. Support customer trainings. Contributing to general GE Energy systems engineering activities including studies, internal product and service support, sales and marketing functions Actively participating in a working environment where teamwork, quality, customer service and innovation are prized. Providing product development and technical support to GE product businesses as required Basic understanding of key business drivers; uses this understanding to accomplish own work. Good understanding of how work of own team integrates with other teams and contributes to the area. May have some autonomy to make decisions within a defined framework. Resolves issues in situations that require good technical knowledge and judgment within established procedures. Consults more senior team members for issues outside of defined instructions/parameters. A job at this level requires good interpersonal skills and may be required to lead a junior team. For customer facing roles, develops strong customer relationships and serves as the interface between customer and GE.

 

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in engineering, Economics, Finance or Public Policy At least 4 years' experience in 1) electric power systems engineering or 2) in generation planning, market design and operations, utility operations, wholesale power trading, or energy market consulting; resulting in demonstrated ability to engineer cost-effective solutions in a team environment and to provide technical/economic advisory services to customers. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to lead engineering/economics teams to high value technical/economic solutions. Knowledge of energy markets is required such as: Historical, current, and future energy price trends (electricity and major fuels); Energy market rules and practices; Current regulations and potential changes; Potential near and long-term generation system evolution; transmission system limitations, operating practices, and expansion plans.Knowledge of power market modelling using production simulation tools like MAPS, PLEXOS etc. Should be able to manage multiple priorities in multiple regions simultaneously.Passion for working in an open, sharing, and supportive environment where colleagues' welcome opportunities to assist each other with solving challenging technical problems. Willingness to travel (15-30% is typical).

 

Desired Characteristics

MSEE or other advanced degree with focus on electric power systems in following areas: Electric power systems engineering, or Transmission planning, or Industrial power plant engineering, or Rules and regulations for transmission system design and operation, e.g., IEC/IEEE Standards, national/regional operation/reliability guidelines, or Other relevant discipline. Proficiency with key analytical tools, e.g., MATLAB, PSLF, MAPS, MARS, PLEXOS and MS office. Active participation within industry professional societies, such as IEEE, CIGRE, etc
