Applications Development Scientist – Volume Electron Microscopy (Room Temperature)
Location/Division Specific Information:
Join our dynamic Life Sciences Business Unit team at the TEM Center-of-Excellence in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. We are dedicated to advancing the capabilities of Volume Electron Microscopy (vEM) for biological and materials research, including groundbreaking room temperature EM techniques.
How will you make an impact?
We are seeking an experienced scientist with a strong background in room temperature Volume Electron Microscopy to drive the development of advanced vEM applications. In this role, you will lead efforts in the design, development, and optimization of workflows using Quattro SEM, Apreo SEM, Apreo VolumeScope, and other vEM techniques, including Array Tomography. You will collaborate with industry and academic partners, delivering innovative solutions for biological, pharmaceutical, and materials science applications.
What will you do?
Develop and evaluate vEM applications using Quattro SEM, Apreo SEM, Apreo VolumeScope, and other volume EM tools, including Array Tomography for 3D sample analysis.
Lead the collection and processing of high-resolution volume datasets for a variety of sample types at room temperature.
Collaborate with customers to design and execute proof-of-concept experiments for challenging biological and material samples, supporting their scientific research and product development.
Serve as the vEM expert, providing applications expertise to R&D, product development, marketing, and sales teams.
Present new application results at scientific workshops and conferences, contributing to publications.
Provide feedback to engineering and software teams to improve system performance, develop new features, and enhance user experience for volume EM workflows.
Actively contribute to the development of marketing and sales materials.
Education:
PhD or equivalent experience in Life Sciences, Materials Science, Structural Biology, or related field with a focus on electron microscopy.
Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Proven experience in volume electron microscopy, particularly with Quattro SEM, Apreo SEM, Apreo VolumeScope, or similar tools.
Expertise in vEM data collection and processing, with a focus on room temperature applications.
Familiarity with Array Tomography or other 3D imaging techniques is highly desirable.
Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences, including new users and highly technical customers.
Strong method development skills, with experience optimizing vEM protocols and troubleshooting issues.
Excellent project management skills, capable of driving innovation in a dynamic and ambitious environment.
Ability to collaborate effectively with academic and industry partners.
Strong leadership qualities, with the ability to guide the future direction of volume EM products.
Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 25%.
