ATS Company: Industrial Automation Requisition ID: 14217 Location: Lewis Center, OH, US, 43035-9445 Date: Feb 3, 2025 Applications Engineering Job Description BASIC FUNCTIONS: Performs a wide variety of technological functions in various aspects of mechanical and electrical engineering, primarily in support of design and development of factory automation systems. Includes preparing and writing innovative detailed proposals for potential customers, working from general automation ideas and concepts. Adhere to all established procedures as defined by ATS Quality Procedures, Process Flows, Work Instructions, Safety Procedures, and the Employee Handbook. RESPONSIBILITIES: • Responsible for conceptual development, pricing and writing detailed technical proposals for all types of automation equipment and projects. • In projects where technical complexity is large, the applications engineer will involve key members of engineering management in pricing and conceptual layout. • Assists engineers and other technical staff in design and development of products, systems, processes and equipment by analyzing technical problems and working closely to customer specifications. • Involves third party vendors and suppliers in the quoting process, where necessary. • Travels to the customer’s site to assist in project or product development, working with engineering design specifications, objectives and standards. • Provides sales presentations to customer personnel, when required. • Obtains and prepares detailed estimates of time, quantities, labor and material costs required for work areas such as; product design, testing, machine building, equipment installations and manufacturing processes. • Assembles and collects all necessary technical information and customer specifications from engineering and sales & marketing, in order to prepare detailed proposals. • Analyzes material and writes in clear, concise language for initial draft. Then selects, organizes, edits and revises proposal. • Makes sure proposal is sent to customer by most efficient route to ensure it arrives on or before deadline date. • May be assigned special projects in support of engineering and sales & marketing, as required. • Define scope of work adequately enough in proposal to allow project manager and project team to begin work on system. • Update weekly quotation status reports • Position involves extensive use of Computer Aided Design and computerized spreadsheets. • Ensure that all business activities are performed with the highest ethical standards and in compliance with the ATS Code of Business Conduct. • Adhere to all health and safety rules and procedures. Additional Information EDUCATION: A post-secondary diploma or degree in mechanical design, engineering or equivalent experience. EXPERIENCE: Three years’ experience in mechanical or electrical engineering/assembly support, preferably in an automation environment. Must have a working knowledge of robotics, machine controls and manufacturing processes and be able to keep abreast of leading-edge technology. In addition, must be familiar with the use of computerized word processing & computerized spreadsheets and AutoCAD or similar drawing package. An ability to present ideas, concepts and pricing information in a clear, concise manner suitable for technical audiences is essential. OTHER: Travel required PHYSICAL DEMANDS: • The employee may be required to stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead, and bend to the floor. • Exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or exert up to 10 pounds of force frequently. • Visual Acuity – Normal requirements for reading written instructions and computer screens • Hearing Ability – Normal requirements for understanding verbal instructions. • Working Conditions – The employee is subject to a normal office environment with occasional exposure to high noise levels and/or physical hazards when visiting manufacturing floor.
