Summary of Position
We are looking for a passionate and experienced Applied Behavioral Scientist Director to help our multi-year mission to reimagine health and wellness across all touchpoints. This is an exciting opportunity to lead Behavior Science embedded within the Clinical organization.
The Director will partner closely with clinical, product, engagement, design, and data science teams to effectively understand consumer preferences and health beliefs and apply readiness to change and other models that can lead to desirable and meaningful health outcomes. Through your creation of systems-level frameworks, you will provide sufficient context for informed, evidence-based clinical program, product, and solution design that is most efficacious in empowering our members to make behavior changes and long-term habit formation. This is a highly-collaborative, fast-paced, innovative environment where you’ll find your excitement building as you’re both challenged and gratified by progress, every day. You will be a behavioral science evangelist, translating the latest academic research into relevant insights and leading the build of a shared foundation of behavioral science across the organization.
Essential Duties
Strategy and Execution
Enhance and iterate the most appropriate Clinical Behavior Science strategies for the organization and its solutions.
Collaborate cross-functionally with clinical, engagement, and product teams, principles, pathways, and processes.
Enable key stakeholders (including Clinical, Product, Engagement) to incorporate an evidence-based behavior change lens into their work.
Align behavior change pathway with consumer/patient journey, and target meaningful and practical clinical, health, and behavioral outcomes.
Identify opportunities to increase success for members based on internal data and advances in the behavioral science field.
Understand, interpret, and incorporate advances and innovations in clinical and applied behavior science in an on-going manner to Teladoc Health’s offerings.
Frameworks and Methodologies
Enhance and evolve a common evidence-based framework and tools that includes a theoretical underpinning, core principles, and a typology of behavior change interventions relevant to our programs that can help: (1) drive and evaluate clinical, product and engagement approaches; and (2) provide a behavior change-focused lens through which to implement and analyze UX research.
Define various types of data and their relevance to behavior change; develop best-in-class approaches to leveraging SDOH and other data to drive behavior change that is culturally, socially, and contextually appropriate to have an impact on health equity.
Behavioral Science research and publications
Work with key research stakeholders across the organization to identify behavior change-related research needs and opportunities and collaborate on research planning, design, and delivery.
Internal and external thought leadership
Represent the organization’s approach to sustained behavior modification at appropriate forums, including customer meetings, advisory councils, and conferences. Support other stakeholders within the organization such as sales and marketing to compellingly communicate our behavior change approach to clients and external stakeholders.
Evangelize behavioral science across the org - Find ways to create excitement and passion around behavior change.
Required Qualifications
Master’s Degree and/or PhD
6+ years of behavioral science work experience using practical applications and evaluation of behavioral insights, behavioral economics, and psychology to build scalable and repeatable processes required.
6+ years of experience working in healthcare e.g. digital health, health plan, academic hospital and health systems, pharma.
6+ years of scaling a behavioral design function by building out infrastructure to support full integration of behavioral science into Clinical and Product strategy and Design Thinking required. This includes building tools and frameworks, as well as leading teams through new ways of working.
Preferred Qualifications
A change agent able to communicate and influence both scientific and non-scientific audiences. Specifically, the ability to take complex scientific principles and translate these into everyday terms and understanding.
An expert able to direct program evaluation methods, causal inference, A/B testing, and Agile project management strongly preferred.
A leader who is able to analyze real-world problems and identify applicable concepts and insights from the behavioral sciences and human-centered design.
A planner who builds and implements actionable plans that deliver business impact.
A collaborator who can inspire and motivate the team to adopt new best practices, exposing them to industry knowledge and experience while valuing the unique skills and values of the Teladoc organization.
The base salary range for this position is $200,000 - $210,000. In addition to a base salary, this position is eligible for a performance bonus and benefits (subject to eligibility requirements) listed here: Teladoc Health Benefits 2025. Total compensation is based on several factors including, but not limited to, type of position, location, education level, work experience, and certifications.
