The ASP Group (Argonne Special Projects) of the Material Science Division, seeks an outstanding early-(RD2) or mid-career (RD3) Experimental Researcher to fill an open scientific staff position within the group. ASP performs research in novel detection capabilities that focus on analyte detection in harsh, complicated, and complex environments. The researcher can be expected to travel to field environments to test and evaluate new technologies created within the group, work with external groups to accomplish project tasks and technology transition, and conduct support work in the laboratory.
Position Requirements
MS or PhD in applied physics, radiation physics, or nuclear engineeringHas experience with radiation detection, signal processing and time sequence correlations. Experience with gamma spectroscopy and neutron activation is desirable. Has Python programming experienceIs familiar with Linux-based (specifically Raspberry PI) platformsFamiliarity with data analysis and statistical methods is desiredMust be willing to travel to support field effortsPossesses strong verbal and written communication skills, and has the ability to contribute to written technical reports and presentationsHas the ability to work independently and as part of a team and the ability to interact well with external collaborators.Demonstrates strong analytical and problem-solving skillsHas knowledge and experience with scientific software developmentPossesses outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail.Has knowledge and experience with software and hardware revision control and tracking techniquesA strong mechanical proficiency is advantageousCAD experience is advantageousExperience using the R platform is advantageousApplicant must be a U.S. citizen who can obtain a Q clearanceAbility to model Argonne’s core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity, and teamwork.Position available at either level:
