We are looking for a Senior Applied Researcher to join our team and drive innovation in creating the next generation of shipping technologies.

Role Overview: As a Senior Applied Researcher, you will play a pivotal role in advancing eBay’s shipping systems. You will lead projects that push the boundaries of logistics optimization and delivery efficiency, ensuring our buyers and sellers receive the most reliable and cost-effective shipping solutions. This role requires a deep understanding of machine learning, data science, and a passion for applying research to solve complex real-world problems.
 

Key Responsibilities:

Lead the design and implementation of sophisticated algorithms that enhance the efficiency and reliability of eBay’s shipping systems.

Stay informed about the latest advancements in logistics algorithms and integrate them into the system to improve business metrics and enhance the user experience.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate research findings into production systems, ensuring scalability and performance.

Conduct experiments and analyze data to drive continuous improvement of shipping models.

Stay abreast of the latest developments in machine learning and logistics systems, applying new techniques to improve eBay’s shipping experience.

Mentor and guide junior researchers, encouraging a culture of innovation and excellence within the team.

Communicate research insights and technical concepts to both technical and non-technical partners.

Qualifications:

Ph.D. or Master’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Data Science, or a related field.

Extensive experience, with more than 7 years, in designing, developing, and deploying machine learning models, particularly in the area of logistics or shipping systems.

Strong proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or Scala, and experience with machine learning frameworks like TensorFlow, PyTorch, or similar.

Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Strong oral English skills, with solid experience to effectively convey ideas and collaborate with international teams and stakeholders.

Proven track record of publishing research in top-tier conferences or journals is a plus.

Experience in e-commerce or a related industry is a plus.
