We are seeking an Applied Scientist Manager who is not only deeply knowledgeable in the theoretical foundations of Machine Learning (ML), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Large Language Models (LLMs) but also skilled in leading and mentoring teams through the practical challenges of innovation. This leadership role demands a hands-on, pragmatic approach to navigating complex scientific and engineering problems, with a focus on delivering results. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a proven track record in guiding teams to develop, deploy, and enhance next-generation shopping search engines, including specialized applications of Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) models for the Rufus platform—key to our mission of transforming shopping assistance. In this role, you will lead by example in conceptualizing, building, and launching cutting-edge models that elevate our search capabilities and user experience. You'll be responsible for defining technical strategy, overseeing project execution, and mentoring team members in best practices across machine learning model development, implementation, and optimization. You will closely work with product teams and other partner teams to drive cross-organization projects and deliver results with significant business impact to customers. Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $165,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $286,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
