Apprentice Machine Technician

Skills Required:  An hands-on individual who has an interest in engineering and manufacturing that is a good team player and has the ability to problem-solve

Personal Qualities:  The Candidate must be motivated, enthusiastic, a self-starter, have initiative, be flexible in their approach to work, take pride in their work and have a degree of common sense. The candidate should also be a good team player, honest, trustworthy, self-motivated, conscientious, and punctual.

Qualifications required:  Grade 4 (or C) and above in English, Science and Mathematics.

Successful Completion of This Apprenticeship will give you a Qualification :  Level 3 NVQ Extended Diploma in Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering Opportunity to progress to receive a degree apprenticeship qualification

Employer Location:                Howmet Fastening Systems, Meridian Business Park, Leicester

College Partnership:              Leicester College, Welford Road, Leicester

Working Week:                        Basic 37.5 hours per week Monday to Thursday, 7.30 am to 4.15 pm.                                                             and Friday, 7.30 am to 11.30 am.  One day will be college day release.

Vacancies exist for upto six Apprentices to begin their career journey into Engineering in the Aerospace Manufacturing sector in the role of Apprentice Machine Technicians at Level 3 in partnership with Leicester College. Our apprenticeship scheme will teach the technical abilities of all areas of manufacturing which enable candidates to set machinery in Grinding, CNC Turning, CNC Milling, Forging, EDM, Thread Roll, Fillet Roll and Heat Treatment. The candidate will be exposed to the latest lean manufacturing methodologies whilst carrying out real meaningful work.

The candidate must have a real interest in working in a Manufacturing environment. Good problem-solving aptitude with a practical, hands-on approach is essential. The candidate must also show being a good team player, honest, trustworthy, self-motivated, conscientious, and punctual.

The programme will provide exposure to multiple areas within the business and new technologies as they are brought in. Previous candidates have progressed to successful careers in the Quality and Engineering departments as Engineers or Team Leaders.
