Apprentice Mechanic (sheetmetal specialty)

Summary Under direct supervision performs all required tasks related to the trade associated with the respective project. Works with and assists Mechanic of a higher grade. Under general supervision performs tasks which the Apprentice has completed and signed off in the Apprenticeship program. Maintains the cleanliness and housekeeping of workshops and equipment in current work areas. Completes training in the Apprenticeship Program at the pace and knowledge level prescribed in the Apprentice and Training Standard.  Responsibilities Under direct supervision performs all required tasks related to the trade associated with the respective project. Works with and assists Electrician of a higher grade. Under general supervision performs tasks which the Apprentice has completed and signed off in the Apprenticeship program. Maintains the cleanliness and housekeeping of workshops and equipment in current work areas. Completes training in the Apprenticeship Program at the pace and knowledge level prescribed in the Apprentice and Training Standard. 

 

Duties will include the below:

Fabricate, assemble, install, and repair sheet metal products and equipment, such as ducts, duct heaters, drainpipes, and furnace casings.  Work may involve any of the following: setting up and operating fabricating machines to cut, bend, and straighten sheet metal; or inspecting, assembling, and smoothing seams and joints of burred surfaces.  Includes sheet metal duct installation to install prefabricated sheet metal ducts used for heating, air conditioning, or other purposes.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Must have strong mechanical aptitude

Education, Experience and Certifications

High school diploma or equivalent.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to work within the setting of a hydroelectric power plant.

Hourly rates for union-represented employees are collectively bargained by the New York Power Authority and IBEW. The negotiated pay rate for this position is $34.25 per hour.
