Position summary:
Perform work of apprentice electrician in the maintenance, installation and testing of electrical and mechanical equipment associated with substation and line operations, which includes but is not limited to, transformers, arrestors, circuit breakers, regulators, capacitor banks, reactor banks, reclosers, disconnect devices, controls, batteries, buildings and grounds. Participate in construction, capital improvement and additional projects, including panel construction, equipment installation, wiring, testing and related activities. This position supports Black Hills Power's substations and line operations.
Pay Range:$28.12 - $48.56 (Determined by the current Collective Bargaining Unit.
Reporting Relationship:Substation Maintenance Supervisor
Location: Rapid City, South Dakota
Essential Functions:
• Assist and follow instructions of the Journeyman Electricians in the installation, maintenance, calibration and testing of transmission and distribution class line and substation equipment.
• Help submit switch order requests for scheduled work in accordance with applicable Company policies.
• Assist with emergency response and troubleshooting of electrical and mechanical equipment and control problems.
• Comply with all maintenance programs, installation standards and work procedures established by the Company.
• Complete apprentice electrician training coursework.
• Complete required documentation associated with daily assignments.
• Attend safety meetings and other employee training as assigned.
Additional Responsibilities:
• Respond to emergency callout work as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
What Is Required:
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of vocational/technical school program for electrician, electrical technology, industrial electronics or related area, or equivalent substation electrical experience.
What Is Desired:
• 12 months of substation electrical experience.
• Basic knowledge of electrical theory.
• Practical electrical knowledge and experience applying National Electric Safety Code (NESC) and National Electric Code (NEC) to high voltage and low voltage situations.
• Basic understanding of hydraulic and pneumatics systems.
• Knowledge of and compliance with safety policies, procedures and standards established by the Company and regulatory agencies.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings.
• Ability to accurately revise drawings as necessary.
• Ability to interpret manufacturers’ equipment manuals.
• Ability to constructively communicate and interact within work group.
• Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
• Ability to learn and utilize Company software applications, including PeopleSoft, GT Viewer, EAM and DTAF.
• Demonstrated safe work ethic.
• Demonstrated problem solving abilities.
• Ability to work from ladders and bucket trucks.
