Job Description

Our coastal team has an excellent track record in delivering coastal policy, management, and design projects both within the UK and internationally. We sit on several coastal frameworks and also undertake a range of work for private sector clients. We provide the complete coastal and marine service from front end feasibility projects, hydraulic modelling, environmental coastal management, climate adaptation, business case and economic appraisal, outline and detailed design of coastal structures, harbours, marinas and developments. 

Here's what you'll do:

Job responsabilities:

Developing coastal management studies, including SMP's, strategies, and StAR/OBC using current Defra and EA FCERM guidance.Coastal hydrodynamic and flood modelling using the MIKE software suiteOvertopping assessments using the Eurotop manualInspection, feasibility studies and detailed design relating to coast protection and sea defence structures e.g. revetments, rock armour, breakwaters, and embankments.Design of maritime structures e.g. quay walls, jetties, flood walls, pontoons, mooring dolphins, piers, berthing structures, steel sheet piling, lock and dock gates.Economic appraisal and five case model business case development  Wider benefit assessment, carbon, sustainability assessment in the coastal environment Coastal and marine input to EIAs

On the job support and learning

When an apprentice starts at AECOM, we pair them with a senior member of the team who will guide and mentor them through their initial period working on live projects and business development tasks, to support with any technical queries. We also offer our apprentices the flexibility of working on a range of projects in the various service offerings and technical specialisms that our Practice delivers. This helps establish their areas of interest, and develops a firm sustainability grounding, that will allow our apprentice to choose the direction of their career.

Apprentice Development Programme

In addition to your identified external training provision in Civil Engineering Technician (Level 3) (usually delivered via day release or in block terms) our Apprentice ADVANCE programme is designed to help you build your career in AECOM. You will attend a number of instructor-led training sessions where you will meet and hear from people across the business and take part in a series of interactive activities to equip you with the knowledge and skills you need to succeed in your role.  We will provide you with all the support and tools you need to achieve your professional development ambitions, including Chartership with the relevant international professional institution.  Professional institute qualifications you may be able to work towards include EngTech then IEng acrreditation with ICE. 

Qualifications

This position is ideally suited to school leavers at GCSE or A-Level (or equivalent) who can demonstrate the following:

Minimum of 5 GCSE’s (or equivalent) at grade ‘C/4’ or above, including Mathematics & EnglishThree A-Levels (or equivalent such as a BTEC Level 3 in Civil Engineering) including Maths and a physical science at grade 'C' or above - essential for level 6 Degree ApprenticeshipSome work experience or shadowing in an engineering environment would be an advantageDemonstrate an interest and a desire to pursue a career in Traffic EngineeringShow an aptitude towards software-based engineering and drawing e.g. Computer Aided Design (CAD) and other similar 3D softwareCommitment to continued education and improvement through on-the-job learning and training opportunities.Creative, practical, adaptable and enthusiasticAbility to demonstrate attention to detailAbility to think in a methodical way to design, plan and organize parts of projectsEnglish language proficient, holding excellent communication skills to present information in speech, drawings and reports
