Position Responsibilities:
Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Genetics Nurse Practitioner (GNP) to join our dynamic team. The GNP will play a crucial role in providing specialized care to patients with genetic disorders, offering genetic counseling, conducting risk assessments, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to deliver comprehensive genetic healthcare services.
Patient Care:
· Conduct comprehensive physical examinations and obtain detailed medical histories.
· Diagnose and manage chronic conditions, with known or suspected genetic conditions, including complex multi-system disorders.
· Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on patient needs and clinical guidelines.
· Prescribe medications and therapies, including non-pharmacological treatments.
· Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests to identify and assess patients' clinical problems and health care needs.
· Communicate findings of genetic testing provided by geneticist to patients and healthcare providers.
· Educate patients about preventive measures, management strategies, and treatment options.
· Provide counseling on lifestyle changes and self-management strategies to improve health outcomes.
· Address patients' questions and concerns with empathy and clarity.
Risk Assessment and Testing (in collaboration with the geneticist):
· Conduct risk assessments based on family history and genetic information.
· Recommend and facilitate appropriate genetic testing.
· Interpret and explain test results and their significance to patients and families.
· Be able to provide basic genetic counseling to patients and families regarding inherited conditions, genetic testing, and implications of genetic disorders
Collaboration and Communication:
· Collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams, including physicians, specialists, nurses, and social workers, to coordinate patient care.
· Consult with and refer patients to specialists as needed for further diagnosis and treatment.
· Participate in case discussions and patient care conferences to optimize treatment plans and outcomes.
Documentation and Compliance:
· Maintain accurate and timely electronic health records (EHR) and documentation of patient encounters, diagnoses, treatments, and outcomes.
· Ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards, as well as organizational policies and procedures.
· Adhere to ethical and legal standards in patient care and practice management.
Research and Professional Development:
· Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care practices and outcomes.
· Engage in clinical research activities and apply evidence-based findings to clinical practice.
· Maintain up-to-date knowledge of advancements in internal medicine and complex adult disorders through continuing education and professional development.
Work Environment:
· Clinical setting primarily outpatient and occasionally inpatient (5% of working hours) with occasional travel for patient consultations may be required, outreach programs, and professional development
· Full- time position
Qualifications:
· Current APRN Licensure in State of Florida BLS, ACLS and CPR required.
· Advanced Practice Registered Nurse; Master of Science in Nursing or PhD in Nursing.
· Minimum of 2-3 years of clinical experience in internal medicine, primary care, or a related field, with a focus on adult and complex patient populations.0-2 years of experience in a related field
