DESCRIPTION
Michael Baker International has an immediate opening for a full-time Archaeologist I in Columbia, South Carolina. An Archaeologist I serves as an archaeological field supervisor and/or laboratory supervisor and performs both field- and/or post-field tasks, including management of an archaeological field crew, daily supervision of Phase I, II, and III archaeological investigations or laboratory supervision, and/or specialized analyses. Preference is given to candidates who have demonstrated credentials and experience in the Southeastern United States, with particular emphasis in North and South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida.
Initially, the successful candidate will assist with a minimum 2-year long project involving Phase I, II, and III archaeological investigations and construction monitoring for the Columbia Canal Reconstruction Project. In addition, the successful candidate will be responsible for working closely with Environmental & Planning staff to expand services, help generate new opportunities, and assist in business development activities such as client engagement, marketing, proposal development, and scope/fee development.
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
5+ years of archaeological experience. Oversee all aspects of archaeological projects from project inception to closeout, including closely monitoring project budgets, workplan development, fieldwork, artifact analyses, site interpretation, public meeting assistance, and National Register of Historic Places recommendations. Assist with proposal and business development with internal and external clientele. The ability to efficiently interact with both Client and Agency staff is paramount. Perform Native American outreach/consultation. Compile and prepare organized, thorough CRM/archaeology-related documents and/or reports. Interpret field findings, site development processes, and stratigraphy. Provide regular project updates to the Technical Manager/ Department Manager and/or Cultural Resources Director and/ or Michael Baker project manager, as well as the client. Must be comfortable on active construction sites and capable of following all applicable saftey policy and procedures at all times. Must be willing to travel.
COMPENSATION
The approximate compensation range for this position $57,574.40 - $90,667.20 per year. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
