Architect

Architect(s) needed in Detroit, Michigan to determine how to strategically and pragmatically approach the design of the project by determining the types of materials to be used on the project from the proposal process through project definition and launch by determining the zoning and code requirements for the project. Provide technical guidance and innovative solutions to resolve complex technical and design issues such as ensuring that design solutions meet all regulatory requirements. This includes developing and proposing multiple strategies and methods to innovatively approach the project’s design, as well as conceiving various design approaches. Lead all project phases to drive client projects from concept through design development to obtain client approval of the design. This includes conceptual designs, presentations, schematic design (graphic presentations, physical models, 3D renderings) and design development. Collaborate and communicate with design team, clients, consultants, contractors, fabricators, vendors and regulatory agencies to create presentations to meet overall project objectives. Visually synthesize client project goals and direct assimilation into the project. Lead pre-design tasks, including occupancy studies and zoning analyses. Once the designs are developed, prepare and produce detailed Revit drawings and ensure that the client, project team and contractors can easily comprehend designs. Lead the construction administration phase of the project, including insuring builder compliance with design specifications, responding to substitution requests, RFI’s (requests for information), reviewing shop drawings and submittals by contractor and advise on design corrections. Conduct and document site visits. Lead documentation coordination with full consultant teams such as structural, MEP, lighting, AV, acoustic, landscape, civil and other consultants. Research and specify materials appropriate for project execution to validate that they are the right materials based on performance criteria. Lead the sustainability integration and coordination of any project certifications as part of the requirements for the project.

Must have a Master’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in Architecture, Interior Design, or related field, plus two (2) years of design experience (non-intern, non-fellowship) with all of the following:

(1) Utilizing 2D/3D software, such as AutoCAD, Revit, Illustrator, SketchUp, InDesign in developing all design stages of large complex projects for office, large-scale corporate campuses, retail, hospitality, and mixed-use development projects and executing Construction Administration;

(2) Construction Administration experience with retail mixed-use, hospitality projects, office development, large-scale corporate campuses, consumer goods re-development, and owner-occupied campuses;

(3) Utilizing site surveys, design sketches, and other inputs to prepare digital architectural models using Revit and/CAD based on Building Information Modeling (BIM) development standards and manage the architectural models along with MEP and structural consultants;

(4) Developing the schematic design, design development, and construction documents for the core and shell of a building, including the lobby, curtain wall system, parking, elevator banks, internal/exterior staircases, core, bathrooms, and terraces;

(5) Coordinating with general contractor, structural, MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing), lighting, façade, audio/visual, acoustics, interiors, wind, landscape, civil consultants, and working directly with other consultants and/or contractors for project documentation and construction and applying Quality Assurance and Quality Control methods throughout project;

(6) Commercial office buildings of size and scale that require Type I and II construction with corresponding life-safety requirements;

(7) Façade development (product and material specification), and entrance and circulation strategy for developer led and owner-occupied facilities; AND

(8) Performing environmental analysis to understand the daylighting required for the mixed-use space planning and developing Life Cycle Analysis and carbon footprint reduction strategies for interior materials.

In the alternative, we will accept a Bachelor’s Degree (or foreign equivalent) in Architecture, Interior Design, or related field, plus five (5) years of progressive post-bachelor’s degree design experience (non-intern, non-fellowship).
