Responsible for providing technical assistance to other related building construction as directed by the City Development Services Senior A rchitect. Working conditions are primarily in an office environment. May exercise functional supervision over assigned staff . This position is an "unclassified" position and has no disciplinary appeal rights to the Municipal Civil Service Commission. This position is likewise subject to at-will employment status and can be terminated at any time for any reason. Work Location 1901 South Alamo (78204) Work Hours 7:45 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday - Friday Essential Job Functions + Reviews City building plans, specifications, blueprints, and cost estimates before and during project construction. + Inspects buildings and construction sites during construction. + Develops designs and drawings on projects to be completed by City workers and outside contractors. + Researches and develops cost estimates for City building projects. + Coordinates with contractors and other City departments on construction and building projects. + Develops reports and presentations on various projects. + Maintains records and files on all architectural work completed and on-going projects. + Directs firms and multidisciplinary groups of professional architects, engineers, and contractors engaged to provide work for the City. + Approves and/or rejects final construction documents for bidding purposes. + Programs, designs, draws, and writes technical specifications for City projects. + Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required. Job Requirements + Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university. + Three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in architecture. + Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License. + Licensed to practice as a Registered Architect in the State of Texas + OR Must obtain a license to practice in the State of Texas within one (1) year of employment. Preferred Qualifications + Experienced in the design and development of high-rise commercial, large mixed-use, data centers, hospitals, civic, and aviation projects. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities + Knowledge of architectural principles and practices, particularly in the construction of governmental, commercial, and institutional buildings. + Knowledge of construction practices and materials. + Knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques used in estimating costs of building construction. + Ability to operate a computer keyboard and other basic office equipment. + Skill in utilizing a personal computer and associated software programs. + Ability to read plans and blueprints. + Ability to prepare clear and concise reports. + Ability to communicate clearly and effectively. + Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City staff and the general public.
