Starting Salary: $96,516

This position is open to the public and all current City employees covered under the City’s collective bargaining agreement with AMERICAN FEDERATION OF STATE, COUNTY, AND MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES (AFSCME) – BARGAINING UNIT 1, 3, 4 5. Only employees in City job titles in this bargaining unit are eligible to bid.

Join the Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities (MOPD) and work on the Accessibility Compliance Unit with a full team of architects on architectural accessibility citywide. This role performs complex professional duties ensuring architectural accessibility in connection with code compliance, design, new construction and renovation of large-scale projects for buildings, facilities and structures, and performs related duties as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

· Reviews complex architectural plans and designs for construction and renovation projects of a large scale and scope to ensure adherence to accessibility code and technical requirements.

· Occasionally participates in site visits to determine project accessibility requirements.

· Provides technical assistance to architects on the preparation of documents for design review.

· Meets with departmental staff to determine correct interpretations for the accessibility sections of the Chicago Building Code and Illinois Accessibility Code.

· Leads department pre-permit virtual meetings to discuss architectural requirements and review drawings with architects.

· Tracks and maintains required documentation for reviews and technical assistance provided.

· Answers phone calls and emails related to architectural accessibility and provides feedback for accessibility requirements and other technical assistance.

· Participates in interdepartmental meetings to represent MOPD regarding accessibility questions.
