Architectural Designer Entry Level

Work in a team environment to research, program, plan, design and administer building projects. With supervision by senior architects, apply knowledge and principles of architectural design, building codes, construction industry standards, building systems and materials according to clients’ needs, desires, and financials resources. Develop design alternates and studies; coordinate and integrate the work of other disciplines into a unified design. Utilize BIM, CAD and other performance modeling and rendering software to prepare computer models, views, renderings, animations, performance studies, drawings and documents of building designs. Prepare building plans, sections, elevations and construction detail drawing deliverables. Help to prepare technical specifications for contract documents. Utilize spreadsheet and other software tools, prepares quantitative data, floor and wall area calculations, material quantity take-offs, to support construction cost estimates and other analyses. Monitor architectural project scope development and changes, tracking adjustments to project design documents. Participate in construction observation activities; monitor compliance with detailed design documents, review RFIs, submittals and make on-site visits to observe construction work. Work on all phases of building design - conceptual development through contract documents, construction, and completion; prepare presentations, attend meetings and project workshops; able to work collaboratively and independently.
TRAVEL: Less than 10% domestic travel to client meetings, travel to other Jacobs offices, job site visits.

REQUIREMENTS: This position requires a Bachelor degree or foreign equivalent in Architecture or closely related field.
SPECIFIC SKILLS: Expertise/ knowledge of: Building façade performance analysis using specialized software: Rhino CFD, DesignBuilder, and WUFI in understanding ventilation and hygrothermal behavior of the proposed façade design; Whole building life-cycle assessment including scopes of structure, foundation, MEP, interior, and enclosure to inform building material selection. Energy modeling with specialized software: Ladybug and Honeybee tool, EnergyPlus, OpenStudio, and Ironbug to improve building performance and inform building system selection; Daylight analysis to check against LEED credit requirement and inform interior and exterior shading strategy; Research, data collection, data analysis, and data visualization using specialized software: Excel, Grasshopper, Design Explorer, and Adobe Illustrator.
