Position Overview

Kiewit Infrastructure Engineering (KIE) is actively seeking a dynamic, proactive Architectural Discipline Sponsor in our growing Design-Build Group. You will be part of our rapidly growing Infrastructure, Facilities and Buildings (IF+B) department which includes architectural and structural engineering and is a multi-faceted and leading-edge division of Kiewit with best-in-class technical expertise focused on the design-build delivery of infrastructure related buildings projects. 

The successful candidate will help further the technical integrity of the infrastructure facilities and transit design group in the eastern United States and support design efforts in North America.  We are interested in an individual contributor who is passionate, self-motivated, and has a strong desire to forward the field of infrastructure architecture and facilities in the US; someone who can appropriately apply innovative technical solutions to solve problems and provide services to our clients, while teaching a younger generation of architects about technical subject matter related to this field.

Location

This position is based out of the midtown, NYC or Woodcliff Lake, NJ offices, with the possibility of hybrid in-office / remote work.

Responsibilities

The Discipline Sponsor will work with our highly successful regional team of architects and facility design professionals to lead quality projects for a diverse range of public- and private-sector clients. These projects will include the design of transit facilities and stations, infrastructure support facilities, bridge structures and supporting aviation infrastructure. The Discipline Sponsor will work closely with the Architecture Group Lead in planning and implementing all work processes. The successful candidate will serve as a highly technical subject matter expert, implement QA/QC procedures and support a culture of quality among the team and practice. The Discipline Sponsor will have overall responsibility for coordination with construction districts, sub-consultants and review of design documentation. They will supervise the work of less experienced architects and team members, while being responsible for project work, planning and scheduling across multiple projects. They will assist with the promotion, discipline, performance review, work allocation, training and mentoring of staff. In their duties, they will develop and present technical viewpoints on projects and ensure KIE systems are used to deliver the design in a standardized manner.  The successful candidate will ensure that a technical solution is consistent with the clients’ program and the design is properly developed and produced.

Candidates’ daily responsibilities will likely involve aspects of architectural project delivery, such as:
•    Leading technical design, guiding production staff on design and enforcing Kiewit / IF&B design and aesthetic standards
•    Supervising and leading preparation of Construction Documents
•    Reviewing standards / details, assisting in their creation
•    Mentoring less experienced staff
•    Conducting Code analysis
•    Managing the architectural aspects of a project from start to finish, including directing staff regarding deliverables
•    Coordinating with other disciplines on projects
•    Resolving open technical issues for project closeout
•    Maintaining active architectural licenses in areas of IF&B business

Qualifications

•    Registered Architect with a minimum 15 years of experience designing and leading major infrastructure facilities and/or architecture projects in the eastern US and nationally
•    Experience preparing architectural details
•    Ability to proactively lead and guide the production of construction documents for major infrastructure facility projects including effectively communicating the criteria to the project team and monitoring its compliance through the QC program
•    Verbal and written communication skills including the ability to write technical memos and papers, present technical topics and respond to requests and needs from other technical practices within Kiewit
•    Excellent interpersonal skills, used for personnel management, performance reviews, career development, and coordination of personnel resources as required by project needs
•    Highly proficient in the use of BIM and CAD platforms, including Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD, and familiarity with related tools and processes
•    Experience with Microsoft Office suite, Project Management and Scheduling software
•    Demonstrated graphic presentation skills  

Preferred Qualifications
•    Experience preparing and documenting required Code compliance and material and product research
•    Project experience in all phases of architectural projects, from conceptual design through final construction completion and owner occupation
•    Prior experience in oversight of architecture in the construction of transportation facilities 
•    Experience with Design-Build and Progressive Design-Build project delivery methods
•    Experience and/or interest in sustainable design. LEED, WEDG and / or Envision professionals highly desired
•    Knowledge of visualization tools (Photoshop, Illustrator, SketchUp, 3-D Studio Max, Dynamo, Rhino, Grasshopper) and processes a plus

Base Compensation: $160,000/yr - $210,000/yr

(Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
