Kleinfelder is seeking an Architectural Historian to grow our cultural resources team. The Architectural Historian will lead project compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act. The Architectural Historian will lead efforts to identify and evaluate historic buildings, structures, objects, and historic districts, along with determinations for eligibility for listing in the National Register of Historic Places and findings of effect. The Architectural Historian will also lead the completion of other historic preservation projects, such as National Register nominations, Historic American Building Record/Historic American Engineering Record (HABS/HAER), documentation, interpretive panels, and traveling exhibits.

 

This position can be remote and/or hybrid and be based anywhere in Pennsylvania, New York, or Virginia.

 

Responsibilities:

 

- Lead architectural history field surveys and complete resource inventory forms and reports
- Complete reporting for compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act, including determinations of eligibility and findings of effect
- Conduct historic research at local, regional, and digital repositories
- Coordinating project review with state and federal agencies
- Travel throughout the Mid-Atlantic/Midwest with some travel outside the regions
- Opportunity to work with other services across the company

 

Position Requirements:

 

- 5-10 years of experience in historic preservation, architectural history, history, or related field
- Master's degree in Historic Preservation, Public History, or related field
- Meet the Secretary of the Interior's Professional Qualifications Standards for Architectural History
- Experience working with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act
- Knowledge of regional architectural forms, styles, trends, and historic contexts
- Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office products)
- Valid driver's license
- Excellent research, writing, editing, and photographic skills
- Ability to work in various weather conditions outdoors

 

Preferred Skills / Experience:

 

- Strong time management skills and ability to manage and prioritize concurrent projects and meet deadlines
- Experience completing National Register of Historic Places nominations
