Area Construction Manager

If this sounds like a career for you, apply to be a part of our great team. Tri Pointe Homes Utah is looking for an experienced individual to join our talented group as an Area Construction Manager. Position Highlights: Responsible for overall leadership of field construction team, vertical construction activities, coordination and performance monitoring of trade partners, and quality control for the assigned geographic area (multiple communities). Position Responsibilities: Provides day-to-day leadership and supervision to assigned project/site construction managers and assistant construction managers. Spends the majority of time in the field leading, working side-by-side with, and mentoring direct reports. Evaluates performance of trade partners and works collaboratively with purchasing and other departments to ensure performance expectations are met and performance improvements needed are timely and communicated and addressed with trade partners. Scope of work modifications and enforcement for consistent product delivery and to reduce the need for untimely purchase orders are key to meeting cycle times and budgets. Ensures that a high level of execution occurs on a consistent basis to provide quality home deliveries to customers. Effectively acknowledges gaps or accelerations in cycle time and reports changes in projected completion times well in advance to ensure a great customer experience and reduce stress on the internal team. Ensures direct reports understand the value of and execute against the Company’s construction and quality standards, including implementation and consistent use of Company procedures and guidelines; including, but not limited to, Hyphen BuildPro, Tableau, and ReportsNow. Identifies trends, best practices and process improvements, including root causes of issues to reduce risk and improve results. Models and reinforces actions consistent with the Company’s values, vision, and culture in line with the core leadership competencies listed on the following page(s). Fosters positive, collaborative team- and achievement-oriented culture. Assists VP of Construction/Operations/Director of Construction in developing and overseeing initial and ongoing production and execution of construction plans and specifications, as well as continuous improvement and value engineering efforts. Assists VP of Construction/Operations in establishing cycle times for each product type and continually monitors/evaluates performance and adjusts schedules (appropriately) to meet business needs/realities. Monitors milestone performance routinely and communicates progress effectively to drive business decisions that yield the highest desired outcome for schedule, budget, quality, and margin. Ensures quality standards for materials, workmanship, and final product are upheld even though market conditions may create unforeseen/difficult obstacles. Effectively communicates and trains others about various risks/challenges and creates action plans that reduce risks. Oversees completion of walk items prior to home closings, to reduce the number of incomplete items at close of escrow. Understands that post close, unresolved items become a burden on the team and disruptive to the customer; elongating the completion of each task. Manages indirect or soft cost budget items. Ensures direct reports understand the importance of providing a work site and homes that are clean, safe and ready. Attends community team team meetings to support business plan goals, as well as customer experience on Eliant key measures. Increases awareness to trade damage on existing components, reduces theft opportunities. Is a key leader in site safety and enforces the use of the safety application for tracking inspections, reports, and incidents related to the Tri Pointe homes safety program. Works with safety consultant for site visits and keeps teams prepared for annual safety audits by reviewing past performance as a routine part of business on a regular cadence. Position Qualifications: High School diploma required; Bachelor’s degree preferred. Minimum 5 years experience in the homebuilding industry required. Extensive knowledge of the construction industry, including the ability to read and interpret blueprints, architectural design, off-site improvement plans, and soils reports. Knowledge of relevant building codes and all scopes of work. Knowledge of Hyphen BuildPro. Must be proactive with the ability to multi-task and follow through with projects containing a high level of detail. Proficient in all Microsoft applications Physical Requirements: Bending, stooping, reaching, lifting, and balancing; frequent standing and walking, sometimes on uneven and rough terrain Climbing ladders; moving/carrying construction materials and supplies weighing more than 50 pounds Tolerance of moderate to very loud noise. Environmental conditions vary depending on weather, stage of production, and where work takes place. Some of the following conditions apply at various times: hot, cold, wet, dry, muddy, humid, windy, calm, bright, dark, noisy, dusty, poor lighting, poor ventilation, temperature variations, fog, and rain.
