Area Controller
GFL is growing and seeking a high energy Finance leader with a passion for financial modelling, providing business insight, and driving overall profitability. Providing direct support to the Area Vice President, Western Canada Environmental Services, the Area Controller will work closely with the finance and operational personnel of GFL to drive overall performance and strategic position of the business. This newly created role will provide strategic insight, analysis and forecasting while possessing a keen ability to spot and work through opportunities for improvement. Thinking strategically, and acting tactically, this role will identify opportunities to support an effective decision-making process while collaborating closely with key stakeholders to ensure optimal strategic alignment and operational execution.



 

Key Responsibilities:

Lead the development of annual budgets, monthly forecasts and quartile projectionsProvide financial and operational analysis and value-added decision support to business leaders, and then synthesize numerous variances into root-cause analysisProvide financial expertise in the development of business cases to support new initiatives and/or enhancements to current processes in addition to providing post implementation analysis of new businessProvide ad hoc financial planning and analysis; develop new reports, run models, and ongoing evaluation of projectsParticipate in the development of strategic business plans and objectives; lead and direct the development and maintenance of modeling techniques to provide revenue projections and analysis of changing/evolving business environment/scenariosLead and assess the areas of responsibilities by providing ongoing coaching, support and direction of the finance teamFoster a culture of continuous improvement with the finance team and operationsReview monthly finance reports of each regionReview post implementation look-back analysis on new business initiativesMaintain high integrity with regard to the Company's financial accounting and reporting policiesLiquid Waste experience is a strong asset, however, Industrial Services, Construction, Manufacturing industries with applicable and transferable skillsets will be consideredExperience with a public company and preparing MD&A


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies:

10 years Finance experience 5 years managing a Finance team of 10+Finance related degreeExperience in M&AStrong attention to detail, and ability to follow through financial transactionsAble to support closure on a tight schedule and provide timely analysis of resultsMust possess a desire to effect change and make a difference in the organizationHandle ambiguity and excel in a dynamic and rapidly changing environmentMust be comfortable working with multiple data sources and data imperfectionsSuperior communication and teamwork skillsExcellent computer skillsPrimarily in an office environment - must be able to work out of Edmonton officeSome travel may be required from time to time at various company locationsPeriodic weekend or evening work is expectedAbility to work and travel between Canada and US
