The global Information Technology (IT) Function is leading efforts to align IT and Business Strategy, leverage IT investments, and optimize end to end business processes and associated information integration technologies. Through these efforts, IT helps to improve the competitive position of Corning's businesses through IT enabled processes. IT also delivers Information Technology applications, infrastructure, and project services in a cost efficient manner to Corning worldwide.
Role PurposeAs the Machine Learning/Artificial Intelligence (ML/AI) Platform Owner, you will be responsible for leading the development and ownership of Corning's ML/AI platform. This role requires strategic thinking, technical expertise, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to drive the successful implementation and adoption of ML/AI solutions across Corning’s businesses. You will define the platform's roadmap, oversee its management, and ensure alignment with business priorities and objectives. In this role, you will also work cross functionally to scale and grow AI functions that support future business growth.
This position can be based in Corning, NY or Charlotte, NC. (Hybrid)
Key Responsibilities Provide technology leadership, direction, and strategy to develop and execute the strategic vision and roadmap for Corning's ML/AI platform. Collaborate with business units and functions to understand their ML/AI needs and translate them into platform requirements. Work closely with Corning AI/ML Governance Committee and ensure alignment to regulatory requirements and audit to compliance. Define and implement governance policies, standards, and best practices for ML/AI model development and deployment. Collaborate extensively with other platform organizations including data, application development, and environment management, ensuring alignment with their associated governance, processes, and policies. Work collaboratively and proactively with Data scientists, software engineers and reliability engineers across the platform engineering organization and the user community to architect, innovate, scale, and operate the AI/ML platform. Anticipate, troubleshoot and resolve AI/ML performance, connectivity, and security issues as they present themselves. Lead the evaluation, selection, and integration of ML/AI tools, frameworks, and technologies into the platform. Define, deploy, automate, administer, and monitor the core platform services provided by our AWS-hosted AI/ML platform and all associated services. Establish a comprehensive view of consumption across all resources. Hire, develop, and lead a team of highly skilled engineers to manage all lifecycle aspects of the AI/ML Platform. Leading our platform operations staff to oversee billing, security, accounts, audit logs, and high-level usage monitoring of the platform. Define and implement platform KPI’s and observability models. Drive platform adoption by promoting its capabilities and benefits to stakeholders and end-users Experiences/Education - Required Minimum 10+ years’ experience with a strong technical background leading technical teams Bachelor's degree in computer science, data science, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred. Minimum of 5 years of experience in ML/AI platform ownership, development, or related roles. Proven track record of successfully implementing ML/AI solutions in a complex organizational setting. ML model life cycle management experience. Thorough understanding of AWS’ Well-Architected framework. Knowledge and experience with edge and embedded ML applications and operations. Strong knowledge of agile software development methodologies. Proficient in using project management and collaboration tools, such as Jira or Trello. Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively communicate complex ML/AI concepts to non-technical stakeholders. Ability to work independently and lead initiatives with minimal supervision. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically and creatively when faced with challenges. Experience with data visualization tools and techniques to effectively communicate insights from ML/AI models. Familiarity with regulatory and compliance requirements related to ML/AI, such as data protection and privacy laws. Experiences/Education - Desired Strong understanding of machine learning and artificial intelligence concepts, algorithms, and technologies. Proven experience in owning and managing ML/AI platforms or similar large-scale technology platforms. Knowledge of ML/AI frameworks, tools, and libraries such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn, and Apache Spark. Proven experience of successful product teams using Agile methodologies to frame and drive work. Proficiency in programming languages commonly used in ML/AI, such as Python. Deep understanding of data management, data engineering, and data integration principles. Experience with cloud platforms, such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, and their ML/AI services. Familiarity with big data technologies and architectures, such as Hadoop, Spark, and distributed computing. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and address challenges in ML/AI model development and deployment. Excellent project management skills, including the ability to prioritize and manage multiple initiatives simultaneously. Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders. Ability to translate business needs and requirements into technical solutions and vice versa. Knowledge of data privacy and security best practices in ML/AI. Continuous learning mindset to stay updated with the latest advancements in ML/AI technologies and methodologies. Experience in leading and mentoring a team of data scientists, engineers, or ML/AI practitioners. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt to changing priorities and technologies.

The range for this position is $192,836.00 - $265,150.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
