About the Position: This position is located at the Rock Island Arsenal Joint Manufacturing and Technology Center (RIA-JMTC). Responsibilities Serves as a working leader of three or more Artillerv Hydro-Pneumatic System Mechanics. Provides status of progress of work to supervisors, causes of delays and overall work operations and problems. Advises and provides guidance to team members on policies and procedures, written instructions and other directives. Ensures safety and housekeeping rules are followed. Fit, adjust and assemble hydro-pneumatic recoil mechanisms and pneumatic Assemble and disassemble hydro-pneumatic recoil systems on a variety of artillery weapons. Repair, service and re-modify standard production and prototype hydro-pneumatic recoil systems. Perform nitrogen air and hydrostatic testing for various parts of the hydro-pneumatic mechanism. Instruct personnel on all phases of disassembling/reassembling and repair of mechanisms. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Position may be filled as a time-limited promotion, reassignment or change to lower grade not to exceed (NTE) 1 year by a current permanent Army employee. Time-limited promotions may be extended up to a maximum of five years. Time-limited reassignments and changes to lower grade may exceed five years, however return rights may be impacted. Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading) Ability To Lead or Supervise Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Trouble Shooting PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work requires incumbent to bend, stoop, crouch, and kneel. Lifts and moves equipment weighing 25 pounds and occasionally weighing up to 60 pounds; position item in test stands frequently requiring reaching and working in awkward positions; exercises patience and sensitivity WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed inside. Subject to skin and eye irritations from solvents, greases, oils, and hydraulic fluids; possible scratches, cuts, strains and abrasions when handling and assembling parts. Required to follow safety procedures and wear safety equipment such as safety shoes, ear plugs, glasses, gloves, and respirators. Exposed to injury in test situations due to the explosive potential of pressurized air, injury from liquids subject to pressures from 1,500 - 9,000 pounds per square inch.
