ASC - Scheduler/Insurance Verification
Job Description

Summary:  The primary function of this position is to schedule patients for and verify payment of outpatient surgery services. Eligible for 401(k). PRN days, must work 4 shifts within a 6 week period.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned. 

Interact with physician offices and patients in a timely courteous mannerSchedule patients for surgeryRegulates schedule according to procedure and physician time and staffing requirementsPre-register scheduled patients, obtaining correct demographic informationObtain information from physician office and patient to verify insurance and demographicsInform physician office and patient of necessary preparation steps for the servicesVerify the medical necessity of scheduled tests for Medicare patientsVerifies insurance benefits, eligibility, and pre-determination requirements for all scheduled patientsCoordinates with the physician’s office when a required pre-determination has not been obtainedContacts patient in advance, notifies of estimated liability and payment optionsUtilize patient financial system and other computer systems to access and update surgery schedules,  patient information for registration and up-front patient responsibilityAssists and backs up other business office positions as neededAnswers telephone, questions, and returns calls in a courteous timely mannerPerforms additional duties as assigned or requested

Education/Experience:

High school diploma or GED certificateMinimum of 1 year surgery center/hospital/medical office scheduling experience requiredMinimum of 1 year customer service requiredA good understanding of medical terminology required

Grandview Endoscopy Center is an outpatient endoscopy facility which is located in the Grandview Physicians Plaza at Grandview Medical Center in Birmingham, AL. There are 16 pre/post procedural beds and four state-of-the-art endoscopic procedure rooms. The Center will provide therapeutic and diagnostic services of various diseases involving the gastrointestinal tract, especially colon cancer screenings, in a personalized and caring environment.  Grandview Endoscopy Center anticipates Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) accreditation CMS Certification, following surveys in late Summer / early Fall of 2019.
