Summary:

Disassemble and reassemble paper machine components according to blueprints, memos, sketches, match marks and/or knowledge of machine construction, using hand tools and power tools.

Job is very heavy in physical demands, requiring a rare push/pull of 150 pounds, although mechanical lifting assistance is available.

 

Responsibilities:

Assume responsibilities of any or all jobs (asked to perform) Clean work area and maintain equipment during shift. Other duties as assigned. Reviews work orders and/or blueprints, sketches and diagrams, to determine work required. Disassemble components. Assemble components. Inspect and measure components with precision tools and instruments to ensure they are within specifications. Cleans parts with solvents, steam cleaner, hot tank, sand blaster and/or caustic soda. Machine parts to specification, using small lathe, milling machine, drill press, etc. Operate forklift, overhead crane or pickup truck to move parts and components. Complete timely reports on materials used on specific job. Complete report forms accurately. Prime or paints parts by hand or with spray gun. Look for improvements in process and provide information to supervisor for implementation.

 

Required Skills/Abilities:

Must meet applicable introductory period. Must be at least 18 years old. Must pass company alcohol and drug screening tests. Must possess hand tools and toolbox necessary for job, and provide itemized list to employer for insurance purposes. Minimum tool list will be provided by employer. Must possess valid driver's license and applicable insurance. Must demonstrate ability to read and understand blueprints, sketches and work orders. Must demonstrate ability to understand and apply verbal instructions. Must demonstrate mechanical abilities (i.e., millwrighting, machinist, automotive background). Must demonstrate ability to assemble and disassemble rolls, parts, and machine components. Interaction/communication with others: With co-workers, supervisor, customers and/or vendors. Deadlines/shift work/flexibility: Meet production deadlines; may change or rotate shifts. Flexibility required in job duties and hours. Other mental/psychological demands: Exercises high level of judgment for safety awareness and response to emergencies and urgent job demands. Safety equipment required: Use prescribed safety procedures and equipment per specific job requirements.  Operation of equipment/tools/vehicles: Equipment: Small machine tools, steam cleaners, sand blasters and overhead cranes. Tools: Hand and power tools including measuring instruments. Vehicles: Operates forklift and pickup truck.

 

Education and Experience:

High School diploma or GED preferred. Must maintain high quality and productivity standards per company requirements. Must maintain timely and regular attendance. Must understand and adhere to prescribed safety procedures. Ability to understand verbal and written communication. Must follow all company policies and maintain appropriate confidentiality. Must complete all company designated training, including a safety orientation. Must consistently maintain diplomatic relationships with customers, co-workers and/or vendors. Must pass random drug tests. Must accurately use and read measuring devices. Must accurately disassemble, inspect, evaluate, and re-assemble any mechanical component. Must report deviations on work order or non-conforming situations regarding jobs to supervisors immediately.

 

Physical Requirements:

Prolonged periods standing and performing repetitive tasks. Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds at a time. Must have manual dexterity in order to assemble products or machines as directed. Must have excellent hand-eye coordination. Must wear applicable PPE.
