WGN-TV is searching for a full-time Assignment Editor with solid news judgment and instincts, able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

Plans, prepares, and executes the station's newsgathering functions, including both scheduled newsworthy events as well as 'spot' news and breaking storiesHelps decide and determine daily story assignmentsDispatches reporters and photographers in the fieldAssists reporters with researching, developing and setting up their storiesMonitors social media for stories and tipsAssists writers, producers and web staff with gathering information and updating storiesResponsible for arranging and supervising video feeds, including Zoom conference callsScrutinizes a multitude of local resources, media and contacts for potential storiesEffectively monitors local law enforcement and public safety agencies for breaking stories

Requirements:

College degreeAssignment Editor experience preferredShould have a working knowledge of the issues, lifestyles and culture that are unique to the Chicago news marketMust be decisive, forward thinking and possess excellent news judgmentStrong organizational and logistical skillsMust be able to work under deadline pressure

Compensation:

$25 to $35 per hour - commensurate with applicant's experience and skill level
